A Shout Out To Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wa.

Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wa), called out the Dictator and his puppet-master Dick Cheney by placing on the record some well needed truth regarding the history of US involvement in Iran, and the real reason for the invasion of Iraq. From AlterNet: Mr. Speaker: This president and vice president have vowed to repeat the mistakes of history, and they have put into motion a plan to do just that in Iran, even as the House is about to send the president a box of blank checks for Iraq, against the will of the American people. The history is worth knowing. In 1953, the United States and United Kingdom launched Operation Ajax, a covert CIA operation to destabilize and remove the democratically elected government of Iran, including then Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh. Why? Oil. Under Mossadegh, the Iranian government decided to reclaim Iran's rightful ownership of its national oil treasure, which had been exclusively controlled by the British who were taking 85 percent of the profits. Oh, and by the way, the U.K. also kept the books secret, merely telling Iran what its 15 percent take was. As soon as Mossadegh began to reclaim Iran's oil treasure, it was all over. Keep in mind, that while McDermott was showing what it means to have integrity, many of his fellow Democrats caved in to pressure from the White House crying all along about how those big bad Republicans would call them names. Ratcheting Up The Case For Iran War

Does anyone besides me make a connection between George's tough talk in a speech today at the Coast Guard Academy where he argued that a withdrawal from Iraq would allow Al Qaeda to flourish and the release of a report from the IAEA saying that despite earlier sanctions, Iran continues to enrich uranium -- which can provide fuel for civilian reactors but also make nuclear bombs. Throw in the build-up of the forces in the Gulf by two aircraft carriers, and I guess we had better be on the look out for renewed terror alerts any time now. This is the Bush MO -- create an alleged security problem, issue a terror alert, build up the forces, and invade. The only thing difference this time, is it will be possible nuclear bombs (they like to tell us it would be a "limited" nuclear strike) rather than an invasion and occupation. Of course there is the usual criticism like this from former national security adviser Richard Clark as reported in the NYT “One day Bush tells us we are fighting in Iraq so that terrorists won’t come here, then he releases intelligence that says terrorists trained in Iraq are coming here. Which is it?” And then of course Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid weighed in saying: “The president today made the best case yet for why Congress must insist on a change of strategy in Iraq.....Intelligence analysts concluded long ago that Iraq has indeed become a training ground and recruiting poster for a new generation of terrorists.” But you see that's the problem. All these leaders talk tough, but do very little to reign in this out of control little dictator. It is more than time to to put a stop to this madness and contact your congressional delegation. The Three Faces Of Death

PNAC planning that has been in effect for years could be closer to reality than many non-conspiracy die-hards believe is possible. So now, when the perfect storm moved into place that gave King George (who likes to play dress up as a warrior), along with (Darth Vader himself) Dick Cheney and then mix in a good helping of Donald Rumsfeld (the apparent S&M expert at the Pentagon) who found a sure-fire way to add even more blood to his own hands than Saddam Hussein - the very person he embraced with enthusiastic friendship when their common enemy was then and appears to be once again, Iran. He along with Alberto the impaler who vigorously defended the Bush administration's decision to detain alleged illegal enemy combatants without protection under the Third Geneva Convention. . The non-applicability of the Geneva Conventionsto cover illegal combatants is disputed by international jurists. Critics feel that Rumsfeld should have been held personally responsible for the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse scandal. Rumsfeld himself said, "These events occurred on my watch as secretary of defense. I am accountable for them." Let's not forget however, this was probably preceded by a few well-placed questions to himself such as 1) Did these incidents occur on my watch? Well golly-be ha-ha-ha they sure did. 2) Does that make me a poor Secretary of Defence? Well heck by golly no under my watch we actually managed to shrink the Pentagons' budget.....that is of course if you don't count the money wasted on faulty equipment obtained from Dicks' and Yours' favorite military contractors. Or the billions upon billions of money that will be needed to assist the traumatized and badly amputated areas of the anatomy that were never even a thought before. This also caused by the Rumsfeld/Cheney Military Outfitters Association. Boy it sure is awfully convenient for the criminals that make up this administration from top to bottom that military investigations into the matters did not find ANY responsible for any wrongdoing.

George's "My Way Or The Highway"Attitude Remains Intact

If not, he and the country is in for a nasty couple of years where nothing will get done thanks to them refusing to realize they are not in the majority (even if definitely slim in the Senate, thanks to Joe LIEbermann and his constant threat to join the Republican ranks). Just in case you missed it, Tony Snowjob seems to be loosing it as well as can be seen by ABC's "Good Morning America." claiming to all far and wide that they have nothing to hide, and are really nice guys willing to give the truth - well their version of it only. Of course this means the meeting is closed to the public, no transcript made available, all based on the assumption that George and the boys (as we have learned for 7 years now)would never ever lie to the Congress or the people who put them there to serve. Of course to no surprise, Democrats rejected Bush's offer -- relayed to Capitol Hill by White House counsel Fred Fielding (remember that name from the Watergate Era?)-- in large part because there would be no transcript and the testimony would not be public. The final and clearest remark regarding the entire matter over the use or non-use of the power of the subpoena and its' "under oath" requirement comes from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NEV) when he said..... it would be "outrageous," to allow Rove to testify off the record. "Anyone who would take that deal isn't playing with a full deck." Words so true and if the stubborn dictatorial bunch across the aisle continue to believe they are answerable to no one, it is definitely going to be a rough and nasty next couple of years where nothing is accomplished, and the nation and its' people suffer because of it.

Not only is Bush losing support at home, over his Iraq policy, he is also being criticized by the Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. It seems that Condi Liesalot Rice ruffled his feathers by making the comment that the Iraqi government was living on "borrowed time". Nice work Condi. Perhaps you should go back to what you do best - shopping for shoes at Ferragamos. On second thought, make that ruby slippers so you can transport yourself and your "husband" George to his Fairyland that is Iraq. Of course once again we must turn to the foreign media for the story as we did here. This time, it is The Guardian. that reports al-Maliki is hitting back at the administration for their criticism for not stopping the sectarian vioence. "I wish that we could receive strong messages of support from the US so we don't give some boost to the terrorists and make them feel that they might have achieved success." In response directly to Condi's remarks, he is quoted as saying.. "Secretary Rice is expressing her own point of view if she thinks that the government is on borrowed time, whether it is borrowed time for the Iraqi government or American administration....I believe that such statements give moral boosts to the terrorists and push them towards making an extra effort and making them believe that they have defeated the American administration, but I can tell you that they haven't defeated the Iraqi government." This administration needs to get their heads out of their collective asses. Everytime they turn around, they anger some foreign government, show their incompetence, and make the U.S. look like a country of bumbling fools for putting them in office in the first place. We must demand of Congress (Dems and Repubs) that they stand up and stop the unnecessary deaths in Iraq, all for the stroking of George's ego while he plays dress-up as the "war President", and lining the pockets of the war profiteers. More Terror

This time from Tony Snow at today's press gaggle: Q: Does the President have concerns that Americans don't share his concerns or visions of what might happen? MR. SNOW: No, I don't think so, but I think it's always important -- it is, I think, important from time to time for the President to share a little bit of what he sees and how he thinks about it, because, fortunately, Americans have not been confronted since September 11, 2001, with direct evidence that terrorists are trying to kill us. It'll be interesting to see how often George cites "terror" and "9-11" in his "new way forward" speech scheduled for prime-time Wednesday night. This will be two full days after the American public was bombarded with terrorism scares, and of course they will connect this to his speech (which is just what they want) not knowing they were false unless they seriously follow the news like most political bloggers who are usually "news-junkies". When Will Bush's Conscience Bother Him?

In a broadcast last week (clip and transcript are available at C & L), CNN's Jack Cafferty asked “Is 3,006 deaths not enough? How many do you suppose it’ll take before President Bush’s conscience begins to bother him—5,000, 10,000, more? The words Bush and Conscience shouldn't even even be used in the same sentence, let alone applied to the little dictator who plays dress-up and pretends to be President (or anyone in his family for that matter). Remember George Sr? Take a look at this shining record: 1. As director of the CIA, he funneled enormous amounts of cash to drug runners including Manuel Noriega and helped in the destabilization of Argentina. 2. Facilitated the Iran-contra affair selling Central American cocaine in America and weapons to Iran while using the profits to fund the contras and to overthrow democratically elected socialists in Central America, and 3. As VP, began propping up a dictator by the name of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Although forbidden by congress to do so, he continued to sell chemical and biological weapons to Saddam even after he used them on villages of innocent civilians. Now we have George Jr., and oh what a surprise he names none other than Don Rumsfeld as his Secretary of Defense. This family's entire history is riddled with subterfuge and dead bodies so if anyone is waiting around for him to get a conscience, my advice is don't hold your breath. Hell you can even go back to his Great-Grandfather George Walker to see how this family's history is probably connected to as many deaths as Saddam - probably more. Keep in mind that billions of dollars are being made from the current debacle in Iraq (at the expense of thousands US soldiers' lives and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilian lives) by Halliburton, once headed by Vice President Dick Cheney; Bechtel, once headed by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld; and Trireme, a defense company started by Bush's former Deputy Secretary of Defense Richard Perle.

A Blurred Line Between Terrorist And Terrorized

Robert Sheer does a wonderful job reminding us exactly how Saddam was propped up by the very neo-con killing machine that is now celebrating his hanging. At worst, the handling of Saddam is just another example of an Imperial America under President Bush that recognizes no boundaries of national sovereignty or any restraint of international law. A nation that posed no threat to U.S. security was conquered for a range of base motives, from oil plunder to industrial profits to naked political gain. Of course, these are the same rationales that despots always use to explain their murderous wars, such as Saddam’s genocidal invasion of Iran and greedy occupation of Kuwait. The president says the execution was warranted because Saddam received a fair trial even after Bush decided to bypass an international tribunal designed to handle such trials of national rulers and instead turn Saddam over to Iraq’s dominant partisan faction in the midst of a nascent civil war. While Saddam’s guilt of “crimes against humanity” may have been accurate, it was not, in fact, established by his trial, which was pushed through even as his lawyers were being assassinated. This, quite opposite to the spirit of the Nuremberg war crime trials (established by the United States but not repeated today by President Bush), where the accused had competent and unintimidated attorneys, free to make a complete case. It appears the US Military under the leadership of the killing machine known as the Bush Administration will do anything to keep the quagmire of Iraq going. According to Boston.com Pentagon officials are considering expanding the number of noncitizens in the ranks -- including disputed proposals to open recruiting stations overseas and putting more immigrants on a faster track to US citizenship if they volunteer Of course the always pro-war conservatives at American Enterprise Institute speaking through supposed military scholar Thomas Donnelly says "It works as a military idea and it works in the context of American immigration". The article also quotes other Army officials, who asked not to be identified .... personnel officials are working with Congress and other parts of the government to test the feasibility of going beyond US borders to recruit soldiers and Marines. Currently, Pentagon policy stipulates that only immigrants legally residing in the United States are eligible to enlist. There are currently about 30,000 noncitizens who serve in the US armed forces, making up about 2 percent of the active-duty force, according to statistics from the military and the Council on Foreign Relations. About 100 non-citizens have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. A recent change in US law, however, gave the Pentagon authority to bring immigrants to the United States if it determines it is vital to national security. So far, the Pentagon has not taken advantage of it, but the calls are growing to take use the new authority. Read on.... I realize recruiting levels have reached an all-time low, but this is totally ridiculous - unless of course you also have something bigger in the works such as starting a war in Iran. The attacks were to be retaliation for the holding of Muslims at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which houses prisoners accused of ties to terrorist groups. December 21st From ABC News: British intelligence and law enforcement officials have passed on a grim assessment to their U.S. counterparts, "It will be a miracle if there isn't a terror attack over the holidays in London," a senior American law enforcement official tells ABCNews.com..... and of course Officials said they could not cite any specific date or target but said al Qaeda had planned previous operations during the Christmas holidays that had been disrupted. December 21st From Reuters: The approach of the year-end holidays has raised general concerns about a possible attack in Europe, but there is no evidence of anything specific or imminent, U.S. officials said on Thursday.....A number of media reports in recent weeks have suggested increasing dangers of an attack in Europe. December 22nd (Australia time) from The Globe & Mail: The Australian government has information that possible terrorist attacks are being planned around Christmas in Indonesia, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said Friday.....And once againMr. Downer offered no details of any potential attacks but said Australians should heed government warnings to reconsider nonessential travel to the world's most populous Muslim country. The Associated Press reports this morning that gunmen posing as Iraqi police pulled off a second mass kidnapping The attackers drove up to the busy al-Sanak area in about 10 sport utility vehicles and began rounding up shop owners and bystanders. Two police officers said 50 to 70 people were abducted. The al-Sanak area — one of the capital's main commercial districts — holds stores selling auto spare parts, agricultural equipment and the small power generators that are ubiquitous in Baghdad due to severe power shortages.
