    A Liberal Controlled Media?

So I ask you to tell me know that the media is controlled by left leaning Liberals. Would you like the REAL reason that Air America Radio declared bankruptcy? Well maybe it is because the largest and richest advertisers in the country have blacklisted the network. Media Matters has obtained proof of the blacklisting in a memo distrubuted by ABC execs:
An internal ABC Radio Networks memo obtained by Media Matters for America, originally from a listener to The Peter B. Collins Show, indicates that nearly 100 ABC advertisers insist that their commercials be blacked out on Air America Radio affiliates. According to the memo, the adverstisers insist that "NONE of their commercials air during AIR AMERICA programming." Among the advertisers listed are Bank of America, Exxon Mobil, Federal Express, General Electric, McDonald's, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, and the U.S. Navy.
I seem to remember way back in my youth, when this same type of thing was done to African-American owned radio stations causing the same kind of outcome. It is bad enough that the corporate giants rape and pillage the economy of their own employees and earths precious resources, now the want to also control what the American people choose to hear. This is outrageous to say the least. I certainly hope one of the things Nancy Pelosi includes in her "first 100 hours" list is to tear apart the current monopolistic broadcast laws and return the equal time statutes that served the people quite well. You can see an enlarged copy of the memo HERE.... Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR)is also covering the story HERE....

    Hey Kenny "Call Me"

From Mike Rogers at BlogActive.com, we get this outstanding ad, produced by Proud of Who We Are and BlogActive, mocking the the Republican National Committee's now-infamous 'call me' ad that showed a scantily clad white actress saying she met Rep. Harold Ford (D-TN) at 'the Playboy party.' It ended with her asking the congressman to "call me!"
You may remember when Ken Mehlman was asked about this on one of the Sunday talk shows, he gave some convoluted reason as to why he didn't have the authority to pull the ad even though he is the Chairman of the RNC. Yet strangely enough the ad was quickly pulled when analysts said the ad was designed to fan the fires of racism, and raise old fears about interracial relationships to try to defeat the Senate campaign of African-American Rep. Harold Ford, and once the media got off their collective butts and informed the public as to what was going on. In a statement from Mike Rogers on the Proud of Who We Are website he states:
"I am another frustrated American, tired of people like Ken Mehlman using lies and personal attacks in an effort to manipulate elections. If Ken Mehlman got the entire mainstream media to give precious air time and column inches to his race-baiting ad, I’m sure they will have no problem reporting the response. And there’s a big difference between Mehlman’s ad and our response: ours is honest."
Last Friday, Oct. 27, Rogers challenged James Dobson and his Focus on the Family group to reconcile their anti-homosexual agenda and their leadership of evangelical support for the GOP with the fact that the party is led by a man who has a large, unanswered question about his own sexual identity. Dobson has told National Public Radio that after the elections, there will have to be a "serious conversation" about whether or not homosexuality can be part of the Republicans’ "big tent." Rogers responded, "James Dobson says that homosexuality is ‘a disorder’ and ‘a descent into depravity.’ Why is he taking orders and trying to turn out voters for a man who might very well be someone on such a ‘descent into depravity’?’"Read on....

Administration Planning Fight To The Death If Dems Take Back Congress

Here is yet another hint that King George and his lackeys are afraid they will lose control of one or both Houses of Congress come November 7th. According to Time Magazine Tony Snow says Bush may attempt to bypass Capitol Hill if they lose control of Congress:
"He told all of us, 'Put on your track shoes. We're going to run to the finish,'" Snow said. "He's going to be aggressive on a lot of fronts. He's been calling all his Cabinet secretaries and telling them, 'You tell me administratively everything you can do between now and the end of the presidency. I want to see your to-do list and how you expect to do it.' We're going to try to be as ambitious and bold as we can possibly be." In fact, when it comes to deploying its Executive power, which is dear to Bush's understanding of the presidency, the President's team has been planning for what one strategist describes as "a cataclysmic fight to the death" over the balance between Congress and the White House if confronted with congressional subpoenas it deems inappropriate. The strategist says the Bush team is "going to assert that power, and they're going to fight it all the way to the Supreme Court on every issue, every time, no compromise, no discussion, no negotiation."
So there you have it. To hell with the people's vote, to hell with the rights of Congress - the main focus of this Administration is to shrug off the will of the people, and hold on to their reigns of power no matter what the cost in "a cataclysmic fight to the death....all the way to the Supreme Court on every issue, every time, no compromise, no discussion, no negotiation."

The Latest Repug Talking Point Links Iraq To The Election

Despite all the bravado from Karl Rove and Ken Mehlman, you can tell the Republicans are running scared about the possibility they could loose the reigns of power in Congress. Just take a look at the latest attempt at manipulation of the American people. From King George's speech at Georgia Southern University:
President Bush claimed that "the Democrat (sic) approach in Iraq comes down to this: the terrorists win and America loses." While "the Democrat (sic) goal is to get out of Iraq," Bush told the crowd of supporters that "the Republican goal is to win in Iraq."
Of course he quickly tried to avoid criticism of his words by saying he didn't mean that "these Democrats are unpatriotic," just that "they're wrong." Sure George. If that's the case then why is your Vice President Darth Vader Cheney In an interview on Faux News claim the latest onslaught of insurgent attacks in Iraq are meant to influence the upcoming midterm election?
CAVUTO: Do you suspect that these insurgent attacks are timed to influence our midterm elections? VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY: That's my belief. I think they are, very, very cognizant of our schedule, if you will. They also -- you've got to remember what the strategy is of the terrorists. They specifically can't beat us in a stand-up fight. They never have. But whether it's al Qaeda or the other elements that are active in Iraq, they are betting on the proposition they can break the will of the American people. They think we won't have the stomach for the fight long-term. Osama bin Laden says as much. He talks about this. *** CAVUTO: Do you think, though, that the insurgents are better at these polls than even we are, that they are reading them and seeing frustration growing with the war, and regardless of the good economy, saying, let's keep up the attacks, let's keep up the pressure? CHENEY: It's my belief that they're very sensitive of the fact that we've got an election scheduled, and they can get on the websites like anybody else.
So there you have it my friends. Once again nothing is their fault. Those damn Democrats just want to cut and run, and the insurgents are influencing the election to help them. Even though this is utter hogwash, you can rest assured every Republican and their supporters like Oxycontin Limbaugh and the talking heads on Faux will be pounding that meme out to us for the next 8 days.

New PR Blitz Planned By Pentagon To Help Rumsfeld

A Pentagon memo obtained by AP describes a new PR campaign to buttress Donald Rumsfeld's image. It sounds like more of a propaganda push to me.
Dorrance Smith, assistant secretary of defense for public affairs, said new teams of people will "develop messages" for the 24-hour news cycle and "correct the record." The memo describes an operation modeled after a political campaign's, such as that made famous by Bill Clinton's successful 1992 presidential race, that use "Rapid Response" action to answer opponents' assertions quickly. Another branch would coordinate "surrogates." In political campaigns, surrogates are usually high-level politicians or key interest groups who speak or travel on behalf of a candidate or an issue.
Does the Administration and the Pentagon seriously believe that the public is so dumb they will fall for this? Give me a friggin break! This man is so far removed from reality it would be downright pathetic if it weren't so damn dangerous. Read on....

NY Times Gives Ned Lamont Its' Endorsement

This is sure to piss off Joementum LIEbermann to no end.
Two months ago, Connecticut’s Democratic voters sent Mr. Lieberman what should have been a jarring wake-up call when they rejected him for Mr. Lamont, a relative newcomer. We have been waiting to see what lessons the state’s best-known politician took from his defeat, and from the daily evidence of the deterioration of the situation in Iraq. **** .....instead of re-evaluating his own positions, Mr. Lieberman blamed his constituents for failing to notice that he had offered some negative comments about the conduct of the war, too, mainly when he was running for the Democratic nomination for president in 2004. He did not protest when Dick Cheney said that people who voted for Mr. Lamont were giving comfort to “Al Qaeda types.” His only reflection seemed devoted to a re-examination of the rules for getting back on the ballot.
Speaking about Ned Lamont in their editorial, the NYT said "He is very much in the Connecticut mold of basically moderate, principled politicians, and his willingness to take on Mr. Lieberman when no one else dared to do it showed real courage and conviction. He would make a good senator. More important, he has the capacity to continually become a better one. We endorse Ned Lamont for Senate". Hopefully the voters in Connecticut will see things the same way. LIEbermann has done nothing but stab his fellow Democrats in the back, while at the same time kissing-up to King George and the rest of his hacks. Read on.....

Hate-filled Letter Threatens Talk Show Host And Peace Activist

What appears to be a right wing psycho sent a profane death threat in a letter to talk show host Stephanie Miller following her appearance on Fox News' Hannity & Colmes. Included in the letter was a threat to activist Cindy Sheehan who lost her son Casey in the Iraq war. In one of the more chilling comments in the letter the writer says the best thing that could happen "would be seeing some WONDERFUL activist sticking an AK-47 up your glory holes and sending you into eternity". Incredibly at the same time he claimed "this is not a threat I am a paci-fist prefering to confront dumb f**ks like you two c*nts with words rather than violence" and then went on to include his name ("Sock" Sokolowski from Centerville, Ohio), along with his phone number. Via BRAD BLOG
"Honestly," the letter continues referring to both the radio host and Sheehan, who lost her son in the War on Iraq, "should I hear of either you leaving this earth prematurely I would initiate a personal celebration that would make Animal House appear to be just another quiet Sunday in church." **** Referring to both women as "mother fuckers," Sokolowski writes that he hopes for further exposure for both Miller and Sheehan on "TV shows…as GUARANTEED your words will someday possibly accelerate your demise." He concludes that he "would love to celebrate and would for days on end as I would and will when still another America HATER meets his/her maker."
Brad has posted an unredacted copy of the letter on his blog The BRAD BLOG

The Real Reason Republicans Need To Be Defeated

In the past 30 days, support for the Iraq War among white evangelicals has fallen from 70 percent to 58 percent. A new poll shows support for the war in Iraq is slipping among white evangelical Protestants, previously a key pillar of support for President George W. Bush. Via Juan Cole, we even find the evangelical preacher K.A. Paul traveling about the country telling everyone within earshot the real reason for the disillusionment.
The Houston-based preacher said he believes that the Bush administration has delayed the second coming because U.S. foreign policy has blocked Christian missionaries from working in Iraq, Iran and Syria..."Somebody needs to say enough is enough," he said to worshippers who stood, waved and called out in support....Paul, who claimed to support conservative political leaders in the past, is launching "a crusade to save America from the wrath of God and Republicans abusing their power," according to his press materials...."God is mad at this country," Paul told the congregation. He described the war in Iraq as "unnecessary genocide."
Can you say "Thank you Jesus!" "amen!" and "halleluja!"? Paul you may remember visited House Speaker Dennis Hastert's home earlier this month to advise the him to step down over the Mark Foley page scandal.

    Same Blog - New Look

Welcome to the new look 3 column CanadianPerspective. There are still a few kinks to work out, but in general the template is completed. On some of the older posts you will notice that the text runs over to the right. This was caused by applying the new template onto the old site. I had no choice to do it that way, because I would have lost all posts and archives otherwise. To the best of my knowledge this can't be fixed, so please be understanding. This should not happen with the newer posts (I hope!!). Enjoy your stay, look around, and come back often.

NBC Says Don't "Shut Up And Sing" - Just Shut Up!

From the "Free Speech In America" file, we see that unfortunately free speech has indeed been lost in the current corporate media. NBC has refused to air a commercial publicizing the documentary "Shut Up & Sing." about the movement against the Dixie Chicks for dissing King George back in 2003 over the invasion of Iraq. From Variety Magazine:
“NBC’s commercial clearance department said in writing that it ‘cannot accept these spots as they are disparaging to President Bush.’”
Well since they won't show the commercial I will:
I guess criticizing the little dictator that could is un-American. Particularly during the run up to the mid-term elections. Academy Award winner Harvey Feinstein who is distributing the film through The Weinstein Company in its' statement regarding the snub said
It’s a sad commentary about the level of fear in our society that a movie about a group of courageous entertainers who were blacklisted for exercising their right of free speech is now itself being blacklisted by corporate America. The idea that anyone should be penalized for criticizing the president is profoundly un-American.
How right he is. Hopefully after November 7th, the citizens of the U.S. will be able to hold this administration accountable for the erosion of their rights. HAD ENOUGH? Vote Democratic Nov. 7th.

    Michael J. Fox Answers Limbaugh

Unless you have been hiding under a rock this past week, you are aware that oxycontin Limbaugh mocked and ridiculed Michael J. Fox about a campaign video supporting stem cell research, claiming he was acting or didn't take his medication for treatment of Parkinson's disease. It wasn't bad enough he did so on his radio show, he then apparently repeated his accusation in a phone conversation with Katie Couric on CBS saying
“I believe Democrats have a long history of using victims of various things as political spokespeople because they believe they are untouchable, infallible, they are immune from criticism.”
As usual, with class and facts on his side (something Limbaugh knows nothing about), Michael has now fired a shot across the bow of the Limbaugh's good ship oxycontin during an appearance on CBS
“I could give a damn about Rush Limbaugh’s pity or anyone else’s pity. I’m not a victim.” I’m someone who is in this situation. I think I’m in this situation along with millions of other Americans, and we have a right, if there’s answers out there, to pursue those answers with the full support of our politicians. And so I don’t need anyone’s permission to do that. COURIC: You have said before this is a bipartisan problem that requires a bipartisan solution.
FOX: No, disease is a nonpartisan problem that requires a bipartisan solution. COURIC: Would you support a Republican candidate? FOX: I have. Arlen Specter is my guy. I have campaigned for Arlen Specter. He has been a fantastic champion of stem cell research. In the meantime, separate and apart from my political involvement, I’ve started a foundation that has raised $85 million for research and is the second leading funder of Parkinson’s research after the federal government. And, you know, it’s not — I’m not a Johnny-come-lately. Nobody plucked me off the apple cart to come and do this. I mean, I believe in this cause. I put a lot of my life and energy into it, and I’m serious about it.

Dictator George Shuns Congressional Legislation Once Again

This arrogant jack-ass in the White House has got to be held accountable and if necessary kicked out of office. Once more King George has pissed on the Congress, the American people, and worse yet the Constitutional Republic's Bill of Rights. Take a look at this from the Washington Post
President Bush reserved the right to ignore key changes in Congress's overhaul of the Federal Emergency Management Agency -- including a requirement to appoint someone with experience handling disasters as the agency's head -- in setting aside dozens of provisions contained in a major homeland security spending bill this week. Besides objecting to Congress's list of qualifications for FEMA's director, the White House also claimed the right to edit or withhold reports to Congress by a watchdog agency within the Department of Homeland Security that is responsible for protecting Americans' personal privacy. Read on.....
Yet again with is usual practice of issuing dicatorial signing statements, he now claims once again that Congressional legislation sent to him need not be followed. Am I mistaken or didn't this half-wit put his hand on the bible and swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States? It seems to me that within that Constitution, it is laid out in plain english that Congress makes the law and the President either signs it or sends it back to Congress with the reasons why he rejects it. He also has the veto option open to him. Of course this guy only uses the veto for legislation that benefits the present and future citizens like stem cell research. It is estimated that "The Decider" has issued over 750 opinions instead of using the veto, and the one and only veto he has issued is to deny crucial medical research that would not only improve lives but save them HAD ENOUGH? vote Democrat Nov. 7th.

    "Stay The Course" - Revisited

In an interview on ABC's "This Week", Bush claimed ‘We’ve never been stay the course, George!’. In response to that, on Oct. 23rd I posted a YouTube video of all the times Bush has trumpeted his "Stay The Course" policy regarding Iraq. Now the Democratic National Committee has released a new web ad entitled, "Stay the Course?," Take a look:
    HAD ENOUGH? Vote Nov. 7th.

Even More Powers Sought By The Bush Regime

It's not bad enough that King George now has the power to define what abuse is. It's not bad enough that the right of Habeus Corpus has been suspended for detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Now the little dictator that could wants to limit the detainees' defense lawyers to four visits, control the topics they can discuss during the meeting, and even restrict the subject of information that exchanged between the lawyers and their clients through the mail.
The government filed the new rules in August with the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., which is currently reviewing them in connection with the case of a Guantanamo detainee. If the court agrees to the limitations, they are expected to be applied to future cases. Read on.....
Ever so slowly, the rights of everyone - citizen of the U.S. or not - are being eroded, turning the country into a dictatorship. Therefore this upcoming election is absolutely critical so Democrats (if they can take control of the Congress), can provide the oversight that has been all but forgotten by the current rubber-stamp Republicans now in power. HAD ENOUGH? Then be sure and support your Democratic candidate on November 7th.

    Call to Action For Impeachment

Even though Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has dismissed the idea of impeaching King George if the Dems take over control of the House of Representatives, Dave Lindorff, co-author of "The Case for Impeachment" has penned a call to action in a "Guest Contribution" for BuzzFlash calling for demonstrations come January supporting the impeachment of George Bush.
I propose that it's time all those patriots and lovers of liberty, all those who oppose the administration's mad imperial military policies, all those who recognize the so-called War on Terror for what it is -- a War on America, all those whose stomachs turned at the sight of the fatal drowning of New Orleans, all those who are outraged at a president who claims the right to violate laws at will, to ignore acts of Congress and to snub rulings of the Supreme Court, all those who are sick of seeing their government function like a whorehouse for corporate Johns, all those who know that there are dark secrets about 9-11 being buried by traitors in the White House, all those who despair at seeing the Bill of Rights ripped out of the Constitution article by article, begin a mass campaign to make impeachment of President Bush item one on the agenda of the next Congress.

"These Are The Stakes" - GOP Terror On A TV Near You

I posted about the new "fear ad" here last Thursday hoping that the word would get out about the latest repugnant terror card the Republican National Committee is using for the election. Now the hero of the progressive movement Keith Olbermann has taken up the cause with his latest "special comment". Here is a snippet of the transcript from MSNBC.
There is a cheap “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” quality to the whole thing, and it also serves to immediately call to mind the occasions when President Bush dismissed Osama bin Laden as somebody he didn’t think about—except, obviously, when elections were near. ****** The dictionary definition of the word “terrorize” is simple and not open to misinterpretation: “To fill or overpower with terror; terrify. To coerce by intimidation or fear.” Note please, that the words “violence” and “death” are missing from that definition. The key to terror, the key to terrorism, is not the act—but the fear of the act. ****** By this definition, the people who put these videos together—first the terrorists and then the administration—whose shared goal is to scare you into panicking instead of thinking—they are the ones terrorizing you. By this definition, the leading terrorist group in this world right now is al Qaida. But the leading terrorist group in this country right now is the Republican Party. ****** Four years ago it was the now-Secretary of State, Dr. Rice, rationalizing Iraq with “we don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.” Days later Mr. Bush himself told an audience that “we cannot wait for the final proof, the smoking gun, that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.” And now we have this cheesy commercial—complete with images of a faked mushroom cloud, and implications of “mass death in America.” This administration has derived benefit and power from terrorizing the very people it claims to be protecting from terror. Chicago Online Registration Database Found Vulnerable

There has been yet another security breach in the nation's electoral system. This time, it was the online voter registration database — containing the personal information of some 1.5 million voters in Chicago, found to be vulnerable to both downloading and hacking. Brad Blog which has been the very best blog to be on top of the problems with electronic voting, reports:
The flawed electronic database which allowed the retrieval and modification of personal voter information — including social security numbers and birthdates of Chicago voters — was discovered recently by members of the Illinois Ballot Integrity Project (IBIP), a non-partisan group of Election Integrity advocates.Read on....
Finally some in the MSM are sitting up and taking notice. But I have to agree with Editor and Publisher when they ask Is Press Taking Possible Voting Problems Seriously? MORE.....

    Final Lamont/Schlesinger/LIEbermann Debate Tonight

This should be very interesting to watch. Especially in view of the fact that the Lamont campaign is still waiting for the book promised by LIEbermann spokesperson Tammy Sun logging all of their campaigns' “petty cash” expenditures for the last reporting period. As I posted HERE, an FEC complaint has been filed against the LIEbermann campaign for not accounting for $387,000 in petty cash his campaign spent days before the state's August Democratic primary. The debate will be televised on a live stream from WTNH Channel 8 at 8 PM ET.

Hillary's Opponent Is An Outright Ass

If this wasn't so ridiculous I would be very angry about the sexist attitude of Republicans. Here is what Senator Clinton's opponent in NY had to say in an interview:
Hillary Clinton's Republican challenger is getting personal and it's not pretty: He says the senator used to be ugly - and speculates she got "millions of dollars" in plastic surgery. "You ever see a picture of her back then? Whew," said John Spencer of Clinton's younger days. "I don't know why Bill married her," he said of the Clintons, who celebrated their 31st anniversary this month. Noting Hillary Clinton looks much different now, he chalked it up to "millions of dollars" of "work" - plastic surgery. "She looks good now," he said. Read on....
Well Spence old buddy, if you want to get down and dirty I think you should make the same comments about "sugar-tits" (hey is Mel Gibson around?) Harris....errr I mean Katherine Harris - that boob job must have cost her a small fortune. Whoops I guess I am feeling a little catty today. But if you want an example of my assessment Crooks and Liars has the video it's hillarious. Regardless, I would like good old Spence to explain how plastic surgery has anything to do with Hillary's intelligence or competence to hold office. I mean with Harris, everyone in her district with half a brain knows she is bat-shit nuts which is more than enough reason to question her competence to join the Senate.

Lamont Files FEC Complaint Against LIEbermann

An FEC complaint has been filed against the LIEbermann campaign for not accounting for $387,000 in petty cash his campaign spent days before the state's August Democratic primary.
"This massive slush fund is an affront to democracy and Connecticut," Lamont campaign manager Tom Swan said in a press release Monday. "These questions are critical for the people of Connecticut to know, and that is why these laws exist and why we're taking legal action. Only an 18-year career politician could dump almost $400,000 in cash into an election and try to call it petty cash." The Lieberman camp denied any wrongdoing. Lieberman spokeswoman Tammy Sun said Sunday, when the allegations first surfaced, that the cash was paid to field coordinators who then distributed money to workers who were canvassing. The payments to workers, many of them students, ranged from $50 to $100 per day, Sun added.
Read on... I guess his "Truth Express" has derailed along with his so-called integrity if he ever had any to begin with. Much like his Republican buddies he continually sucks up to, he will say anything and do anything to maintain his hold on power. If he does happen to succeed in holding on to his seat in the Senate as an Independent, I would certainly hope the Dems will refuse to let him be a member of their caucus. He has deserted his Democratic roots and stabbed Democrats in the back too many times to be allowed to keep even a sliver of the power he lusts for.

More Bushit - "We’ve Never Been Stay The Course"

If you happened to be watching the Sunday news shows, I hope you were watching "This Week" on ABC. George Stephanopoulos asked about James Baker’s plan to develop a strategy for Iraq that is “between ’stay the course’ and ‘cut and run.’” Bush responded, ‘We’ve never been stay the course, George!’ As usual the moron conveniently didn't remember his own words.
BUSH: We will stay the course. [8/30/06] BUSH: We will stay the course, we will complete the job in Iraq. [8/4/05] BUSH: And that’s why we’re going to stay the course in Iraq. And that’s why when we say something in Iraq, we’re going to do it. [4/16/04] BUSH: And my message today to those in Iraq is: We’ll stay the course. [4/13/04] BUSH: And so we’ve got tough action in Iraq. But we will stay the course. [4/5/04] BUSH: And my message today to those in Iraq is: We’ll stay the course. [4/13/04] BUSH: We will stay the course until the job is done, Steve. And the temptation is to try to get the President or somebody to put a timetable on the definition of getting the job done. We’re just going to stay the course. [12/15/03]
And people wonder why his poll numbers are so low? What bothers me about the Stephanopolous interview is the fact that he didn't bother pinning him down with a follow-up question like "But Mr. President, didn't you say previously that we should "stay the course"? As usual the compliant press just goes along letting King George and his minions say and do whatever they like. Time to wake-up guys!!

    Bush's "National Character Counts Week"

If this isn't typical of the sorry state of affairs (pun intended) in the morally bankrupt Republican Party, I don't know what is. Hell even the corporate controlled media has taken notice. Take a look at some headlines during the past week. From Associated Press:
"During National Character Counts Week, Bush Stumps for Philanderer." The Washington Post. "Gubernatorial race: Gibbons denies doing anything inappropriate, offensive." Las Vegas Review-Journal. "Ellison campaign says woman has blackmail in mind." Minneapolis Star Tribune. "Priest offers further details about his relations with Foley."Sarasota Herald-Tribune
Read on..... It appears the public has also taken notice. The latest "generic poll" for October 19 - 20th from Newsweek shows an 18% lead for the Democrats 55% to 37%. Although it is much too soon to become complacent or over-confident, this is definitely a positive signal that the the public is indeed ready for a change.

Re-elect Jennifer Granholm (D-Mi) For Governor

With only 17 days left until Election Day 2006 (Nov 7), it is important to honestly examine Governor Jennifer Granhom's record of accomplishments in the last four years. Something Dick DeVos has failed to do. This election could very well be the most important election not only in the history of the country, but specifically for the state of Michigan. Despite the rantings and incorrect portrayal of Jennifer Granholm's record by challenger Dick DeVos, Jennifer has done more for Michigan than her previous challenger 4 years ago John Engler who, like Dick DeVos, was also a do nothing, bought and paid for Republican. In fact she has successfully trimmed over $4 billion dollars in budget deficits inherited from Engler - more than any governor in the history of the state. Read my post about Devos from September 15th HERE. There have been 3 debates between the two, and DeVos has yet to answer any question directly. As with his hero George Bush, all you hear from this man is doublespeak and totally unfounded attacks against the Governor. From her campaign blog:
Even when pressed, Dick DeVos refused to elaborate Read the transcript here - he never answers the questions. All he does is attack the Governor, trying to hold her responsible for the economic challenges which he himself played a part in causing. Meanwhile, Governor Granholm answered the questions directly. Read on.....
On jobs, Governor Jennifer Granholm has developed the nation's most comprehensive and aggressive economic plan. Despite the fiscal mess she inherited and the indifference of the administration in Washington, the Governor's $6 billion "Jobs Today, Jobs Tomorrow" economic plan will create jobs and boost Michigan's economy without sacrificing the quality of life Michiganians deserve. The plan will protect the jobs residents of Michigan have, create new jobs now, jobs needed in the future, and invest in the education and health of Michigan's people. Governor Granholm will create, retain, and "go anywhere and do anything" to grow jobs in Michigan, and she'll fight the policies that would outsource jobs; she puts Michigan first. Click here to see a few examples of Jobs Plan success stories. Considering what she inherited from the previous state administration, and despite the disgraceful economic and employment policies of George Bush and his Republican controlled Congress, Jennifer Granholm has been one of the most successful Governors in the nation. A list of Governor Granholm's accomplishments is available HERE. I would urge you to please vote on November 7th, take along your neighbors and friends and reward Jennifer Granholm by returning her to the Governorship of the state. Visit Governor Granholm's website here.

    Here Comes The Fear Card

We all knew it was only a matter of time before Rove and his henchmen pull the terror card out of the deck right in time for the the mid-terms. Could this be the much anticipated October surprise?
The Republican Party will begin airing a hard-hitting ad this weekend that warns of more cataclysmic terror attacks against the U.S. homeland. The ad portrays Osama bin Laden and quotes his threats against America dating to February 1998. "These are the stakes," the ad concludes. "Vote November 7." Brian Jones, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said the ad would run on national cable beginning Sunday
Apparently the ad will display quotes from bin Laden and his top lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri, that include bin Laden's Dec. 26, 2001 vow that "what is yet to come will be even greater". The fact that the terrorists within the Bush administration namely Karl Rove and his minions would again threaten terror unless the dissenters got back in line is hardly a surprise. The only real stunning development is the arrogance this White House displays by believing this lowest form of propaganda still has a significant impact on the body politic of the nation Read on.... If you wish, you can view the ad called "The Stakes" at the RNC Website. WARNING...a hot soapy shower is advised after visiing this website.

Like Bush - Rumsfeld Also Hears Voices From God

All this time we were under the impression that only George Bush heard voices from God. Now it turns out that Rumsfeld does also
MIAMI (AFP) - The top US general defended the leadership of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, saying it is inspired by God. "He leads in a way that the good Lord tells him is best for our country," said Marine General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

War Will Be Inevitable - North Korean General

Once again it appears George Bush's grandstanding and tough "cowboy talk" from the lecturn instead of private and less threatening negotiations has heightened tensions and made the world even more unstable during the North Korean nuclear testing crisis. As Reuters has reported
U.S. President George W. Bush warned North Korea of grave consequences if it tries to sell nuclear arms, while his top diplomat headed to Seoul on Thursday for support in pressuring Pyongyang to end its atomic ambitions. In his sternest message to Pyongyang since its October 9 nuclear test, Bush said on Wednesday that the United States would use whatever means necessary to keep North Korea from proliferating nuclear arms beyond its borders.
Instead of talking directly with N. Korean leaders, we now face this
If President Bush continues to ask North Korea to "kneel," war "will be inevitable," and it would begin on the Korean Peninsula, North Korean Gen. Ri Chan Bok told "Good Morning America" anchor Diane Sawyer, in an exclusive interview inside North Korea. President Bush wants the country to kneel down, Ri said, and North Koreans cannot agree with that.
In an interview with Diane Sawyer from North Korea on This Morning America,
[Sawyer] read Ri the president's statement warning of grave consequences for North Korea should the nation continue nuclear testing or transfer nuclear technologies to third-party countries. She asked whether the general had a reaction. Ri told Sawyer that he didn't tend to believe what Bush said. "Can the general guarantee or reassure the American people that this nuclear information will not be passed to terrorists?" Sawyer asked. "We have nuclear weapons to defend our country and our people," he said.
It might behoove Cowboy George to remember that there are currently about 30,000 troops in South Korea and North Korea does have access to short and long-range missiles. Or is he purposely ratcheting up this tension in order to play the fear card just before the mid-term elections? I have to wonder if the next shoe to drop will be the claim that N. Korea has supplied nuclear weapons to Iran and we absolutely MUST attack yet another middle east country. You can read the entire ABC article Here.....

    Fess-Up Dick

I'm sure this will cause a bit of a stir for Darth Vader Cheney, especially occurring in the final weeks of the election campaign.
A federal judge has ordered the Bush administration to release information about who visited Vice President Dick Cheney's office and personal residence, an order that could spark a late election season debate over lobbyists' White House access.
    [snip]
U.S. District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina ruled Wednesday that, by the end of next week, the Secret Service must produce the records or at least identity them and justify why they are being withheld. The newspaper sought logs for anyone visiting Cheney, his legal counsel, chief spokesman and other top aides and advisers.
This is similar to an earlier lawsuit that revealed hundreds of meetings inside the White House by Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed possibly tying them with the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal. I can hardly wait until the Washington Post publishes the information. Better recharge that pacemaker Dickie. Read on.....

'Beginning Of The End Of America'

As usual Keith Olbermann give us a chilling reminder of just what has been lost by the Military Commissions Act
We have lived as if in a trance. We have lived as people in fear. And now—our rights and our freedoms in peril—we slowly awake to learn that we have been afraid of the wrong thing. Therefore, tonight have we truly become the inheritors of our American legacy. For, on this first full day that the Military Commissions Act is in force, we now face what our ancestors faced, at other times of exaggerated crisis and melodramatic fear-mongering: A government more dangerous to our liberty, than is the enemy it claims to protect us from. We have been here before—and we have been here before led here—by men better and wiser and nobler than George W. Bush.

    Rovian Dirty Tricks Part Two

Part one was posted here, now via Atrios we are reminded just how badly the Ohio GOP has corrupted politics in that state:
Washington- The Republican Party last night refused to cancel commercials that claim Sherrod Brown was a longtime tax scofflaw - even though the state of Ohio says the ad's claim is untrue. Brown, the Democrat running against incumbent Mike DeWine, paid the tax bill years ago, soon after receiving a tax lien, according to newly released records from the Brown campaign and authenticated by the state. But the Republican National Committee, supporting DeWine's reelection bid, is running commercials saying that Brown "didn't pay his unemployment taxes for 13 years." DeWine ran his own commercial all day Wednesday with a DeWine family friend saying that Brown didn't pay "an outstanding tax bill for 12 years." Hours after Brown campaign lawyers complained, DeWine spokesman Brian Seitchik said last night that the campaign would change its ad "as soon as possible," but that it still would reflect the fact that Brown "failed to pay a delinquent tax bill." The RNC, however, said last night that it had no plans to change its ad.

Letter Threatening Hispanic Voters Linked To GOP

The dirty tricks have been ratcheted up in the run-up to the November 7th midterm elections. This one is particularly offensive, and has made immigrants the latest target much like the black population was targeted the last two elections. The Associated Press is reporting
SANTA ANA, Calif. - State investigators have linked a Republican campaign to letters sent to thousands of Orange County Hispanics, a spokesman for the attorney general said. "We have identified where we believe the mailing list was obtained," said Nathan Barankin, spokesman for Attorney General Bill Lockyer. He declined to identify the specific Republican campaign Wednesday, citing the ongoing investigation. The Los Angeles Times and The Orange County Register both reported Thursday that the investigation appeared to be focused on the campaign of Tan D. Nguyen, a Republican challenger to Democratic U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez.

    Football Site Terror Alerts "Uncredible"

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security has deemed the threats to seven NFL game sites for this Sunday are not credible, and are investigating a suspect in Milwaukee regarding the threats.
The message said trucks would deliver radiological bombs to stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland.
    [snip]
The threats turned up a week ago on the Web, and officials have said they didn't seem credible. There was also no intelligence backing up such claims. Still, the Department of Homeland Security opted to alert the NFL and the stadium owners, just to be on the safe side. But the department is urging fans to go ahead and attend the games.

Conrad Burns Promotes Closed Government - But Likes Checkers

I guess Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) doesn't mind letting everyone know that he (like his dear leader King George) is in favor of secret and closed government, as opposed to his Democratic challenger Jon Tester who wants a government that is open and transparent. In a debate last night, Tester challenged Burns to tell voters what Bush's plan is in Iraq saying that Burns has finally admitted that his “stay the course” position in Iraq is wrong and welcomed the senator to his and the majority of the public's view. This apparently caused Conrad the Barbarian to come completely unglued. Here is a transcript of the response from billingsgazette.com (emphasis mine)....
CONRAD BURNS: I said we gotta win. He wants to pull out. He [referring to Tester]wants everybody to know our plan. That's not smart. If you had a plan in order to win are you gonna tell the enemy? He's not...the enemy's not gonna tell us! That is absolutely unbelievable that anyone would take that approach! He says our president don't have a plan. I think he's got one. But he's not gonna tell everybody in the whole world. And if you wanna go out and spar for a fight or you gonna tell your enemy what your plan is...I don't think so. And that's the way we'll win it, Because we want to win it. [SNIP] BURNS: Again he says there's no plan. There is a plan. We're not gonna tell you, John. We're not gonna tell you what our plan is because you'll just go out there and blow it. Period! By heavens, that's just common sense. That's enough. JON TESTER: I just wanna say one thing. BURNS: Wait a minute, hold the phone! TESTER: Ok, all right, all right. MODERATOR: This is his response. TESTER: This is my response... MODERATOR: Just this last word, then we'll move on. BURNS: No, I don't think he has. I think he's out of bounds. MODERATOR: No, no. TESTER: Mike asked me a question, I answered, you get to answer, I get to answer. That's the way it works. BURNS: Oh really? TESTER: Yes. BURNS: Like checkers? TESTER: That's the way it works. Well it's interesting, Senator Burns because I listened to some of your comrades on TV last week who came back from Iraq, I guess they don't know the plan either. The chairman of the Armed Services Committee doesn't know the plan but you do. Because the chairman of the Armed Services Committee says that if things don't change we need to change things. We need to have a plan.
Checkers??? Oh my. A new Rasmussen poll shows Tester with a 7 point lead (49% to 42%).

The Day The U.S. Lost Its' Moral Compass

While the press went gaga yesterday over the fact that history was made when the 300 millionth resident was clocked in at 7:46 a.m. ET, according to the Census Bureau's "population clock", the REAL history making event occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. when King George officially received unlimited power from an enabling Congress by signing the Military Commissions Act. Not only will this give George and any future President the power to define exactly what an "enemy combatant" is from the detainees at Guantanamo but also his/her own citizens. Officially, as of now, the right of Habeus Corpus has been suspended and anyone, US citizen or not cannot have access to the court system to persue their constitutional rights of challenging their detainment. As Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI)stated in his statement,
I am deeply disappointed that Congress enacted this law. We will look back on this day as a stain on our nation’s history.”
Add to that the fact that the President or anyone he designates will have the "absolute right" to define exactly what the definition of "torture" is, and to hell with the Geneva Conventions, and you have a clear recipe for Fascism. Constitutional rights lawyer Jonathan Turley stated in an interview with Keith Olbermann:
"People have no idea how significant this is. Really a time of shame this is for the American system.—The strange thing is that we have become sort of constitutional couch potatoes. The Congress just gave the President despotic powers and you could hear the yawn across the country as people turned to Dancing With the Stars. It's otherworldly..People clearly don't realize what a fundamental change it is about who we are as a country. What happened today changed us. And I'm not too sure we're gonna change back anytime soon."
Once again the Edward R. Murrow of our time Keith Olbermann (transcript available here), commented on the loss of Habeus Corpus. A stain on history indeed.

Senate Report Names Norquist As A Fraud

    From WaPo
Five conservative nonprofit organizations, including one run by prominent Republican Grover Norquist, "perpetrated a fraud" on taxpayers by selling their clout to lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Senate investigators said in a report issued today. The report includes previously unreleased e-mails between the now-disgraced lobbyist and officers of the nonprofit groups, showing that Abramoff routed money from his clients to the groups. In exchange the groups, among other things, produced ostensibly independent newspaper op-ed columns or press releases that favored the clients' positions
The groups named in the report include Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform; the National Center for Public Policy Research, a spinoff of the Heritage Foundation; the Council of Republicans for Environmental Advocacy, co-founded by Norquist and Gale Norton Gale Norton before she became Secretary of the Interior. The groups were allegedly involved in laundering payments, and sending them in the direction of Jack Abramoff who were then given the task of among other things
....introducing Mr. Abramoff's clients to government officials in exchange for payment; and agreeing to act as a front organization for congressional trips paid for by Mr. Abramoff's clients."
This report is all the more proof that a change is needed in Washington, and the Democrats should continue hammering hard not only pointing out the Republican utterly false "family values" BS, but to also keep reminding every voter of the "culture of corruption" that currently exists in the House and the Senate. Nothing But Praise For LIEbermann From Darth Cheney

If you had any doubts (and I'm sure none of you did), nothing would please the Bush crime family more than to see Democratic turncoat Joe LIEbermann win his bid for re-election as an independant. If some of you did however, take a look at what Darth Cheney had to say at a recent campaign stop for Rep. Jim Ryan on Thursday afternoon. Via The Raw Story
Time and time again, we're seeing examples of Democratic Party leaders apparently having lost their perspective concerning the nature of the enemy we face, and the need to wage this fight aggressively. No sharper example can be found than the Democratic Party chairman himself, Howard Dean, who said the capture of Saddam Hussein did not make America any safer. Perhaps it should come as no surprise that such a party would turn its back on a man like Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Senator Lieberman was my opponent in 2000 -- Al Gore's running mate, a longtime senator, and one of the most loyal and distinguished Democrats of his generation. Joe is also an unapologetic supporter of the fight against terror. He voted to support military action in Iraq when most senators in both parties did the same -- and he's had the courage to stick by that vote even when things got tough. And now, for that reason alone, the Dean Democrats have purged Joe Lieberman from the Democratic Party.
"Birds of a feather" I guess. If I remember correctly, Joementum had stated a while back that he would caucus with the Democrats in the Senate if he is returned to office. Well I have one thing to say to that...if the Democrats allow this to happen, they do not deserve to gain the reigns of power and should be summarily tossed out at the next opportunity. The corporate bunch from the DCCC have shown what they're made of, and it's not too pretty. Unless of course you like loosing elections.

More Proof The Christian Base Is Viewed With Contempt

Another note to our Christian conservative friends. If you didn't get enough proof from my last post that you are seen on as no more than chumps by your Republican Party, you now have none other than Conservative talking-head Tucker Carlson verifying it to Chris Matthews:
CARLSON: It goes deeper than that though. The deep truth is that the elites in the Republican Party have pure contempt for the evangelicals who put their party in power. Everybody in… MATTHEWS: How do you know that? How do you know that? CARLSON: Because I know them. Because I grew up with them. Because I live with them. They live on my street. Because I live in Washington, and I know that everybody in our world has contempt for the evangelicals. And the evangelicals know that, and they're beginning to learn that their own leaders sort of look askance at them and don't share their values.
Of course C&L has the video.

George's Christian Base Get's Yet Another Wake-up Call

I don't know if you will remember or not, but way back during the beginnings of the Abramoff scandal, it was revealed that this administration regarded their Christian base as nothing more than political pawns and a source of revenue. In fact, I posted about it here, back in November of 2005. Here is a short snippet from that post explaining how Michael Scanlon a former communications director for Rep. Tom DeLay turned lobbyist who has plead guilty to corruption charges would use them
In plain terms, Scanlon confessed the source code of recent Republican electoral victories: target religious conservatives, distract everyone else, and then railroad through complex initiatives. "The wackos get their information through the Christian right, Christian radio, mail, the internet and telephone trees," Scanlon wrote in the memo, which was read into the public record at a hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. "Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them."
Nice eh? Well now we have yet another example of this administrations' hypocrisy from a tell-all book called Tempting Faith by author David Kuo a self-described conservative Christian., who served as special assistant to the president from 2001 to 2003. A snippet from this report by MSNBC
...David Kuo, who served as special assistant to the president from 2001 to 2003. A self-described conservative Christian, Kuo'’s previous experience includes work for prominent conservatives including former Education Secretary and federal drug czar Bill Bennett and former Attorney General John Ashcroft.... He says some of the nation'’s most prominent evangelical leaders were known in the office of presidential political strategist Karl Rove as "“the nuts."” "“National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as '‘ridiculous,'’ '‘out of control,'’ and just plain '‘goofy',"” Kuo writes.
So there you have it my Christian conservative friends, according to Tom DeLay's former assistant Michael Scanlon you are all "wackos", and Karl Rove your dear leaders' right hand man calls you "goofy" and "“the nuts"”. Sleep well in your deep faith people, and oh be sure you all flock to the voter's booth on Nov. 7th. After all you have to be faithful to this bunch right? Just as they are so faithful to you. Read on.... You can also see the video of how our hero Keith Olbermann reported on it last night, at Crooks and Liars.

Feel Secure Support The GOP -- NOT!

I ask you, how can the GOP protect your children from sexual predators in their own congressional caucus if the can't even protect their donors? According The NY Sun, they can't. The GOP seems to be just as reckless with their personal information as they are with everything else they touch.
In a breach of privacy, the Republican National Committee erroneously e-mailed a list that contained the names, races, and Social Security numbers of dozens of top Republican donors — and that identified two of the contributors as Muslim — to this reporter. (Russell Berman)
The collection of a donors' Social Security number is fine I guess, if they are given the option of providing it or not, but to specifically point out the race is outright wrong. Say wasn't it King George himself who stated back in July of 2001, "It's wrong in America, and we've got to get rid of it."? Oh well, if nothing else they are consistent in their hypocrisy. The controversy hit new heights, when they listed the "race" of one couple as Muslim. Ummm someone should tell the GOP that Muslim is not a "race"....it is a religion. I guess the GOP is even wrong when they are wrong. Read on.....

    Take That New York

    Tigers Send Yankees Packing
    8-3
DETROIT (AP) -- As a reborn baseball town erupted in splashes of orange and blue around them, the Detroit Tigers danced in the infield, kicking up dirt like kids on a sandlot. Once a punchline, the Tigers punched out the big, bad Yankees,-- three years after losing 119 games, they moved back among baseball's biggest cats with an 8-3 victory Saturday in Game 4 over the Yankees, whose $200 million payroll couldn't help them against Detroit's pitching.
Next stop the American League Championship Series against the Oakland A's - then hopefully on to the world series.

More Pages Come Forward - Claiming Online Sexual Advances

The Foley scandel just keeps growing. ABC News is reporting three more pages have come forward with devastating stories about how they received online sexual advances. They also seem to bolster the reports that Foley was involved in this lurid activity as far back as 1998. The pages served in the classes of 1998, 2000 and 2002, and approached ABC on their tip line. These congressional pages' stories show beyond a doubt, that Foley was totally out of control even back then. How in the world the Republican leadership going back as far as Tom Delay were unaware of this is beyond me.
"I was seventeen years old and just returned to [my home state] when Foley began to e-mail me, asking if I had ever seen my page roommates naked and how big their penises were," said the page in the 2002 class.
He then went on to say he was told that if he was ever in Washington, he could stay at Foley's home if he agreed to engage in oral sex with him. The second page, also from the 2000 class said Foley would visit the page dorm and offer to take them to events in his BMW. He said the emails from Foley began to get sexually explicit even requesting photographs of his erect penis. The page from the class of 1998 said the emails to him started when he was a senior in high school, and when the IM's began to get more weird, he stopped responding to him. This activity did not take place in a vacuum and no one with half a brain can seriously believe as the Republican leadership has claimed, that they weren't aware of this until it made the news on ABC last week. Even if that is the case, they are at the very least guilty of gross negligance for not protecting the children they were responsible for. Read on....

    Take That LIEbermann

Yesterday, Joementum LIEbermann claimed he was a Democrat in the mold of JFK and Truman and more of a "centrist" than Ned Lamont. Well it seems that the other Kennedy, the one that is very much alive and used to be a fellow Senator in the Democratic Senate Caucus before LIEbermann spit in their face disagrees.
Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy, who was in Connecticut Wednesday campaigning for Lieberman's opponent, Ned Lamont, was asked about Lieberman's comment later in the day. If Lieberman believes that the invasion of Iraq was in keeping with the muscular foreign policy of Truman and JFK, Kennedy said, "He doesn't have it right." Kennedy, who voted against the Iraq war resolution, said the Bush administration misled Congress and the public into supporting the war, while his brother used solid intelligence to justify a blockade of Cuba to force the removal of Soviet missiles. "President Kennedy would have been very careful with the facts. He would have been very careful not to sign on for distortions, misrepresentations and manipulation of intelligence," Kennedy said. "That wasn't the Cuban missile crisis. So Joe Lieberman is wrong on this, as he is on the war in Iraq."

Constitutional Rights Disappearing While The Focus Is On Sex And Scandal

While the main focus by the MSM and Bloggers (myself included) is almost exclusively on salacious emails and IM's, the world continues to grind on in the justice system. Remember the ruling by U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in Detroit on Aug. 17th? That was the ruling that stated quite clearly that King George and the rest of his dictatorship cabal were violating the rights to free speech, privacy and the separation of powers in the Constitution by using their warrantless surveillance program. Well my friends while the focus is shifted AP is telling us this:
The Bush administration can continue its warrantless surveillance program while it appeals a judge's ruling that the program is unconstitutional, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday. ...... The unanimous ruling from a three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals gave little explanation for the decision. In the three-paragraph ruling, judges said that they balanced the likelihood an appeal would succeed, the potential damage to both sides and the public interest.
Wake up America - while you sleep your rights are being trashed. Read on.....

CREW Demands Investigation Of FBI Lies

From a press release by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington:
Washington, DC – Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) wrote to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General’s (I.G.) office today to ask for an investigation into why the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has fabricated and disseminated a cover-up story as to why it never investigated the Foley emails sent to it by CREW. CBS News has reported that according to the FBI when CREW gave the Bureau the original set of emails from Rep. Mark Foley to a former House page, they were “heavily redacted.” The FBI is also claiming that it came back to CREW and asked for more information so that it could follow up, but that CREW refused to provide anything further. Reporters from several other news organizations have repeated this allegation. The FBI is lying. On Monday, October 2, CREW sent a letter to the DOJ I.G.’s office, attaching exact copies of the emails CREW had sent to the FBI on July 21, 2006. Both the former page’s name and the person to whom the page forwarded Rep. Foley’s emails were clearly visible. Moreover, after CREW sent the emails to the FBI, CREW’s only subsequent contact with the Bureau was one telephone call from the special agent to whom CREW had sent the material confirming that the emails were from Rep. Foley. CREW had no further contact with the FBI. In contrast with this new explanation for failing to investigate the Foley matter, The Washington Post has reported that an unnamed FBI official stated that the Bureau decided not to investigate after concluding that the emails “did not rise to the level of criminal activity.” Melanie Sloan, CREW’s executive director said today, “the FBI cannot have it both ways; either it failed to investigate the Foley emails because they did not rise to a level of criminal activity or because it did not have adequate information to do so. Pick one. “Attorney General Gonzales has told the public repeatedly that the investigation and prosecution of those who sexually exploit children is a top priority. We are outraged that the FBI failed to investigate Rep. Foley and is now blaming others for its inaction. “It is time for all of those who had knowledge about Rep. Foley’s conduct to step up and take responsibility for leaving a sexual predator on the loose.” CREW’s letters and Rep. Foley’s e-mails are available at www.citizensforethics.org.

A Strange Case Of Child Abuse Resurfaces

    What About the Children?
It is time for the journalistic community to demand some answers about that old 1985 case. If they do so, I suspect that they are going to bring to light something that has needed to be faced for years: something is deeply, deeply awry in Washington, and it involves the abuse of children, and it goes far beyond the present scandal. It's time to demand that the CIA explain why it suppressed the Finders case, and for the Washington Police, the Tallahassee Police and the US Customs Service to release the results of their investigations, and for the United States Congress to begin an extensive inquiry into the degree to which children have been and are being abused behind the closed doors of official secrecy and official power.
Read on...... Here is a snippet from another article on this case:
One by one, the dots get connected. The same names keep popping up and they are linked with the same activities over and over and over again until the pattern becomes so clear and undeniable, the circumstantial evidence becomes so overwhelming and the picture emerges that is so frightening that it is hard to believe that it is true. The picture that has emerged is that indeed the major institutions of the United States of America, the CIA, the FBI and the many of our governmental and media institutions are involved in child sexual slavery and ritualistic abuse. The same names keep surfacing in relation to the same subjects over and over again. The CIA, child sexual abuse, the Catholic church, George Bush Sr., The secret societies of the Scull and Bones, the Freemasons, The Knights of Malta and others and on and on and on.

Is Foley's Folly Diverting Us From The Fall Of A Great Nation?

Surfing around the blogosphere today, I came across a few posts and the comments attached to them that kind of smacked me across the back of my head and brought me back to a reality that sent cold chills down my spine. We all have a tendency to grab on to the juciest story (read the Foley scandal), especially when it centers around Republicans and we watch their hypocritical family values BS crash down around them in flames. However, at a blog I just came across for the first time today Once Upon A Time, there was this eye opener
those in the administration who drive our foreign policy have always wanted and intended to attack Iran. That was the big target from the very beginning. The question of timing is a separate one. From their perspective, and if they think such an attack would ensure continuing Republican control of Congress, why not do it in the next month? Two for the price of one, and all that...and never mind the possibly tens or hundreds of thousands dead, and possibly even more if the mayhem rapidly spirals out of control. Never mind that the United States would forever brand itself as one of most destructive, contemptible, damnable nations in history, engaging in murderous, aggressive war whenever the whim strikes it.
Pretty intense isn't it. Like I said it brings back a cold reality. But it also made me think of what has taken place in the last few weeks. Think of the legislation that eliminated the right of habeus corpus, gave a President and administration out of control and drunk with power even more power. That power also gives them the right to decide what the meaning of "torture" is. Who would have thought that the country most respected for civil rights around the world is even debating about the use of torture. Think of the war in Iraq, and the fact that at least 17 soldiers and Marines have been killed since Saturday, most in Baghdad or Anbar province, where fierce fighting continues between Marines and Sunni insurgents. The U.S. has done such a great job of training the Iraqi police force that Iraqi authorities pulled a brigade of about 700 policemen out of service Wednesday for investigation of suspected ties to death squads. And finally there was this from Common Dreams.org
    Requiem For My Country
The Military Commissions Act is totalitarian police-state legislation that has just been enacted by the U.S. Congress. It provides, among other things, that the President can decide U.S. citizens are enemy combatants. It strips foreign born enemy combatants of habeas corpus. Charges and evidence are secret and the person so termed can be held in secret and can even be executed in secret (through a “presidential finding” signed on 9/17/01). There is no recourse. I don’t think these laws are aimed at terrorists. I think they are aimed at political dissenters (peace activists?) and will be used accordingly. It must be noted that the media has omitted the crucial details related to U.S. citizens in their scanty coverage of this Act. ..... Our responses as a nation of free people has been lacking the past few years. We failed to protest for all votes being counted in 2000 when there was a problem, we accepted a cynical manipulation into an illegal war based on lies, and again in 2004 we failed to ensure that all votes were counted properly. We are trapped in a web made up of our fantasy life of who and what we are as a nation and the new reality, which is starkly rendered by this new Act.
This is the face of chilling reality.

    The Republican Finger-Pointing Continues

Earlier today, ABC reported that Senior Congressional Aide Kirk Fordham had resigned.
The chief of staff for Republican Congressman Tom Reynolds, Kirk Fordham, resigned after questions were raised about his role in the handling of the congressional page scandal, according to Republican sources on Capitol Hill.
    However, some insiders are saying
Fordham was being used as a scapegoat by Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. They said Fordham had repeatedly warned Hastert's staff about Foley's "problem" with pages, but little was done.
It makes sense that Fordham (who is not blameless in this IMO), is being forced out and he is indeed being used as a scapegoat. Consider the fact that Hastert has changed his story so many times since this all started last week you get dizzy trying to keep up with his spin. Also consider the fact that Haster's own position as House Speaker is on the line, not to mention how this may affect his re-election chances to the House seat for Illinois' 14th Congressional District. Now CNN is reporting a statement from Fordham in which he takes a direct shot at not only Hastert, but the entire leadership:
The fact is, even prior to the existence of the Foley email exchanges I had more than one conversation with senior staff at the highest levels of the House of Representatives asking them to intervene when I was informed of Mr. Foley's inappropriate behavior. ...... Rather than trying to shift the blame on me, those who are employed by these House Leaders should acknowledge what they know about their action or inaction in response to the information they knew about Mr. Foley prior to 2005."
That is two years ago. Why no in-depth investigation by Hastert, Majority Leader John Boehner, RNCC Chairman Rep. Tom Reynolds or Rep. John Shimkusor, Chairman of the page board? This little game of theirs is getting very tiresome. They would be wise to remember the cover-up is what usually hangs you.

    Lies And Excuses

These Republicans wouldn't know the truth if it bit them in the ass. Mark Foley's lawyer David Roth, says Foley never offered to provide alcohol for teens at his Capitol Hill apartment, yet ABC's Brian Ross has an email saying otherwise:
Maf54: then we can have a few drinks Maf54: lol Teen: yes yes ;-) Maf54: your not old enough to drink Teen: shhh.... Maf54: ok Teen: thats not what my ID says Teen: lol Maf54: ok Teen: i probably shouldnt be telling you that huh Maf54: we may need to drink at my house so we dont get busted
Roth also claimed "he has never had sexual contact with a minor" however in another IM, he writes
Maf54: I miss you lots since san diego.
Ok I grant you this does not prove sexual contact but in light of the explicit sexual overtones in all of the instant messages ABC has copies of I ask you why should we believe that? Then the excuses start:
    1. I am an alcoholic. 2. I was molested between the ages of 13-15 yrs of age. 3. I'm gay.
Oh yes the ravages of alcohol. It made Bob Ney indulge in conspiracy to defraud the United States and falsify financial disclosure forms. That's right, all those bribes amounting to over $50,000 in gambling sprees at foreign private casinos were caused by alcohol, and now it has caused poor Mark Foley to be a predator of underage boys entrusted to his care. The molestation excuse is always a quick excuse of sexual predators. If that's the case with Foley, he should have sought treatment before the age of 52. If it didn't appear until just now, then one has to wonder how many boys out there have been abused since he was 13-15 years of age. And last but not least he tars every gay male as a sexual predator of young boys. Well that is not the case. If you look at the data, most (estimated 71%) child molestations are committed by heterosexual white males between the ages of 17 and 45 in steady relationships [emphasis mine].

    A $20 Million Dollar Party

This is yet another way this crooked bunch in Washington can find to raid the U.S. treasury. It has now been revealed that Senate and House Republicans quietly earmarked $20 million for a "celebration" for victory in Iraq and Afghanistan at the same time they knew that both wars are escalating do to their own misguided idea that bombing and killing innocent civilians was the way to "spread democracy". This is taking place while thousands of residents in the Gulf Coast region still have not received the government assistance that was promised to help them return to their respective cities and states and rebuild what has been their home for generations. This is taking place while thousands of children in the U.S. go to bed hungry. This is taking place while school districts can't afford to supply its' children with books and qualified teachers required for even the basic instruction for reading and writing. So much for "no child left behind". The details of this $20 million boondoggle is reported today in the The San Francisco Chronicle. Here are some excerpts:
Tucked away in fine print in the military spending bill for this past year was a lump sum of $20 million to pay for a celebration in the nation's capital "for commemoration of success" in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And just to make sure they can keep this money available they wrote into that fine print that it will be held over for use in 2007 on a date chosen by King George himself. It was described this way in the original legislation:
The original legislation empowered the president to designate "a day of celebration" to commemorate the success of the armed forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, and to "issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe that day with appropriate ceremonies and activities."
The Pentagon's spin on this comes from a spokesman for the Pentagon:
Lt. Col. Brian Maka, a Pentagon spokesman, said late Tuesday that the event was envisioned not so much as a celebration of victory but more as an opportunity for "honoring returning U.S. forces at the conclusion" of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
It seems to me that the U.S. forces would be better served by buying much needed body armor, not a publicity stunt for Republicans to wave the flag for their false patriotism. Read on.....
