Landrieu Grows A Spine - Well - Not Really
The other day I ripped a new one for Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu in my post HERE, where IMO, she appeared as nothing more than an insufferable twit and apologist for King George. It looks as though she woke up to the fact that kissing up to George didn't work. Tonight, RAW STORY is reporting she has finally taken the twerp known as George, playing the part of President, to task for his use of the tragedy as a photo-op:"Yesterday, I was hoping President Bush would come away from his tour of the regional devastation triggered by Hurricane Katrina with a new understanding for the magnitude of the suffering and for the abject failures of the current Federal Emergency Management Agency. 24 hours later, the President has yet to answer my call for a cabinet-level official to lead our efforts. Meanwhile, FEMA, now a shell of what it once was, continues to be overwhelmed by the task at hand. "I understand that the U.S. Forest Service had water-tanker aircraft available to help douse the fires raging on our riverfront, but FEMA has yet to accept the aid. When Amtrak offered trains to evacuate significant numbers of victims - far more efficiently than buses - FEMA again dragged its feet. Offers of medicine, communications equipment and other desperately needed items continue to flow in, only to be ignored by the agency. "But perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street levee. Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a Presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment. The good and decent people of southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast - black and white, rich and poor, young and old - deserve far better from their national government."Well not so fast there Mary. You're not off the hook yet. It's all well and good that you finally spoke out Senator, but I still believe you can do better and call a spade a spade (or a liar a liar) as it were. I realize the Senate is supposedly known for its' diplomacy, but you're not on the Senate Floor right now and your stateliterallyraly drowning off the face of the earth along with its' citizens. This is not the time for diplomacy. This is a time for all out war with an administration that cares more for the hand-picked regime in Iraq getting its' oil rights to hand over to Haliburton than it does for its' own citizens in a State and a Country that you were sent to Washington to represent. An administration headed by a self-centered, depraved and fascist dictator. Your little rant may take away the label of being "apologist" for King George but it sure doesn't show you have grown a spine strong enough to stand up to this bunch. Do you think they would act with diplomacy and respect if the shoe were on the other foot? HELL NO!! They have all the power in their hands now and they don't show you, your state or the country itself any diplomacy and respect. Get off your ass and stand up to them. Be blunt and be nasty......it is the only thing they understand. "The good and decent people of southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast - black and white, rich and poor, young and old - deserve far better"....from their State Senator also. |
