Canadian Warships Take Supplies To Louisiana
Defence Minister Bill Graham announced today that three Canadian warships and a coast guard vessel will be sent to Louisiana on Tuesday with relief supplies for the U.S. Gulf Coast. The Canadian Coast Guard Ship SIR WILLIAM ALEXANDER will sail along with the Canadian Navy vessels, HMCS ATHABASKAN, HMCS VILLE DE QUEBEC and HMCS TORONTO. The Coast Guard vessel will support the Canadian Navy in the amphibious rescue operations and will be under the command of the Naval Task Force Commander. The ALEXANDER will carry equipment such as pumps, generators and medical supplies for the Navy. In addition, the vessel carries 2 fast response craft, a helicopter and other vessels. In addition to providing humanitarian aid, along with divers, and engineering expertise for reconstruction, the ships will also carry three Sea King Helicopters to carry personnel into stricken areas. It seems sickeningly strange to me, that all of this aid is suddenly arriving in the stricken areas, and permission to send foreign aid has finally been given to Canada from His Highness King George to supply the aid it has had ready for three days now, on the very same day he just happens to decide to get the hell off of his ass and visit the devastated states (along with the photo-op the trip offered). The man (and I use that term loosely for him) sickens me to no end. |
