CNN Stuns U.S. With Actual News

From CJR Daily Last week, during CNN's 25th anniversary celebration, CJR Daily took the network to task for shortchanging international news. As we noted then, whereas in 1994 CNN dedicated two hours of its weekday schedule to international news, the CNN of 2005 to date was lucky to feature two hours of foreign news in a week. At least until today, when that all changed. Today the network began simulcasting on its US network its meaty news program "Your World Today" that airs regularly on CNN International. Be still my heart!!! Has CJR found what we have all been waiting for? Real news? Well as it turn out yes they acutally did It speaks to the state of cable news that we sat in shock and awe for the better part of an hour, as anchors Zain Verjee and Jim Clancy did nothing more than deliver the news like it's supposed to be done. Perhaps the new management that has been put in place at CNN now realizes what we have known all along. It is time the media mainstream start acting like news outlets, and instead of wall to wall coverage of sleaze instead of news (read Michael Jackson, Runaway Bride etc.), we are finally going to get actual news. Now the next step in my opinion is to stop walking lock-step with the Bush administration and start question it's policies and statements and maybe there will be hope for the nation yet.
