Another Fine Example Of Christian GOP "Family Values"
You just have to love this latest example of right-wing Christian Conservative family values. I guess according to their view of things it is just fine to force anal sex upon a woman and treat her as you would a hooker, as long as it's your wife. Just another case of the "do as I say not as I do" attitude of this bunch is revealed in a piece authored by Ayelish McGarvey in the May 30th issue of The Nation titled "Dr. Hager's Family Values". The story brings to light the abuse this hypocrite inflicted upon his now ex-wife Linda Carruth-Davis. It seems Dr. Hager, a Bush appointee to the to the Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health Drugs in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Also a self-described leading Conservative Christian voice on women's health and sexuality, enjoyed treating his spouse as no more than a prostitute to satisfy his deviant needs. Carruth-Davis, who was also a co-author of Hager's book "Stress and the Woman's Body", alleges that he repeatedly sodomized her without her consent, and even went so far as pressuring her to let him videotape and photograph them having sex. She says she consented, and eventually, even let Hager pay her for sex that she wouldn't have otherwise engaged in--for example, $2,000 for oral sex, "though that didn't happen very often because I hated doing it so much. So though it was more painful, I would let him sodomize me, and he would leave a check on the dresser." This exchange took place almost weekly for several years during their thirty-two year marriage. In the preface for one of his books, unbelievably titled "As Jesus Cared for Women", he writes "it wasn't until I began to see how Jesus treated women that I understood how I, as a doctor, should treat them." In another of his books he even has the gaul to refer to a man who raped his wife as "selfish" and "sinful." Well I guess he would know if anyone does. This is a lengthly article, but I highly recommend it if you wish to see the GOP/Christian Conservative's "family values" in action. How this man could possibly be a consultant to anything other than a juicy pornographic novel is beyond me. But then again as many of us always say nothing surprises us anymore about this bunch. I would urge you to take the time to read this article, currently available on-line at The Nation |
