"It's Hard Work" - MSM Reason For Not Covering Iraq

Oh my, those poor, poor talking heads we call the "news media". They are just soooo overworked and have sooooo little time. And then again there is that viewing public that just doesn't care about the story. Well get over yourself guys and gals. That's what your there for. Maybe if you took the time to report the fact that there are over 140,000 troops over there -- and they are getting killed and injured every day the public would sit up and take notice. But no you justify your ignorance by whining about how it is a hard story to cover. David Sirota expressed it quite well today in his guest post over at The Huffington Post. His advice?
For any reporters reading this, here's the deal: As my dad always said, your work is supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it (and granted, some of the no-talent clowns on TV prove, unfortunately, that everyone is doing it). The fact that Iraq is a "hard" story means you need to work extra hard to cover it - not simply ignore the story altogether, and create/justify an insulated Washington, D.C. conventional wisdom that says no one cares. If you spend more than 6 seconds outside the beltway echo chamber, you'd know damn well that people do.
Oh how I long for the days when we had reporters like Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley. Hell bring back Woodward and Bernstein for that matter. Just give us back the watchdog power of a free press that we used to rely on to give us honest journalism and keep arrogant politicians and administrations in line. You can also read how David took ABC to task today by hopping over to Sirotablog. Here is just an example of how a real journalist like David Sirota writes:
Sorry America, the insulated, out-of-touch, Washington media is simply uninterested in providing any real coverage about the war. Because remember, the media has to be "very deferential" because "no one want[s] to get into an argument with the president at this very serious time."
Now that is TRUE journalism folks.
