More Republican hypocrisy.....Will It Ever End??
VOINOVICH EXPRESSES DOUBTS ON BOLTON.........BUT!!!
Although the official vote on John Bolton to become the next UN Ambassador has not yet been taken, judging by the comments below it looks to me like George Voinovich is trying to have it both ways, he voices all kinds of concerns he has about having Bolton as UN Ambassador, then also says that the vote belongs on the senate floor. By letting the vote go to the entire senate by voting yes in committee with the intention of voting no on the senate floor strikes me as the utmost in hypocrisy.
More to come when the vote is taken..........
"I do believe that UN needs reform." "I have concerns with the current nominee and his ability to get the job done." "Mr. Bolton will make it more difficult for us to achieve the badly needed reform for this organization." "Mr Bolton would make it more difficult for our country to put UN reforms into place." "Other countries could use Bolton as a point of contention with the US." "That being said, Mr. Chairman, I am not so arrogant to think that I should impose my judgment and perspective of the U.S. position in the world community on the rest of my colleagues."Why the does he even sit on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee? Does he not realize that this is the whole intention of the advise and consent clause? If you have grave doubts as he expressed wouln't you not be offering the advice portion by not voting in favor of the nominee getting out of committee? I guess his next remarks will be "I voted for Mr. Bolton BEFORE I voted AGAINST him". Update [2005-5-12 2:31 p.m. EDT]: The committee has voted to submit Bolton to the full Senate WITHOUT recommendation by a party-line vote of 10-8. |
