Passage Of Patriot Act In Doubt
At one time he was the lone wolf in voting against the Patriot Act in the days after the 9-11 attacks. Now Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) is leading the battle against the passage of the legislation's renewal in the Senate and it appears the numbers are on his side and gaining momentum.
ABC News is reporting:Now add more than two dozen senators to Feingold's side, including the leaders of his party and some of the chamber's most conservative Republicans, and the balance of power shifts.Of course this did not sit well at all with everyone's' favorite dictator King George who promptly dispatched Attorney General Gonzales two days in a row to twist some arms to no avail. Said King George: "That is a bad decision for the security of the United States. I call upon the Senate to end the filibuster and to pass this important legislation so that we have the tools necessary to defend the country in a time of war." Well your highness obviously the wise minds in the Senate are reading the wishes of their constituents back home and will vote accordingly. George had no sooner opened his lying mouth when Sen. Patrick Leahy, (D-VT) the leading Democrat on the Judiciary Committee said he had more than 40 votes that would assuredly support a filibuster of the legislation. The ABC report goes on to say The opposition that began with Feingold's one vote has bloomed into a bloc of Democrats and Republicans concerned about a range of powers the original act gave the FBI, and how they are used. This group prefers the curbs on government power passed by the Senate but rejected in a compromise with the House. Now, faced with an up-or-down vote on the accord, they say no.So there you have it George. The people are sick and tired of your plan to keep eroding their rights little by little until the U.S. becomes a police state much like you turned New Orleans into after the hurricane. So I guess you and your PNAC enthusiasts will have to cool your heals and hopefully the American public will now continue to keep a closer watch on the civil liberties PNAC is all to anxious to eliminate in their quest for world dominance. |
