The Democrats Hold Together
The Senate Democrats held together tonight and again stopped Bush's nomination of John Bolton to be the new UN Ambassador. The final vote was 54-38 in favor of ending the delays, leaving the Republicans six votes short of sending the nomination to the full Senate. He now has two choices open to him. He can either withdraw the nomination and send up someone new, or we will see further abuse of executive power from King George, and he will use the "recess appointment" option and send him to the UN during the Senate's upcoming July 4 recess without Senate approval. Submitting a new name is something I do not expect from this bully so look for Bolton to be installed as Ambassador until the new Senate is sworn in come January 2007. The Republicans are sure to cry "obstructionist Democrats" with regard to this loss, but Bolton is not the main issue here (although he is the far from being qualified), the main point as I see it is the separation of powers. The Senate has a right under US Constitution to request and be given any and all documents they require in order to advise and consent. Of course why should an insignificant document like the Constitution mean anything to King George, when all he can possibly wrap his pea-brain around is a copy of "My Pet Goat". His attitude about anything he wants is to be heavy-handed and lie, delay and lie some more until he can find another avenue to get his way. His Administration and Bolton are a disgrace to the United States. |
