Another Example Of Those Republican Family Values

Here is just another in a long string of examples showing the true hypocrisy of those much loved (by the Christian Right) anti-gay "family values". The Very Anti-gay Republican Mayor of Spokane Jim West, who turns out to be VERY Gay, is now under investigation by the FBI for possibly using his office to engage in "public corruption". The Spokesman-Review is reporting that The FBI is in the initial phases of a possible "public corruption" case involving allegations that Spokane Mayor Jim West abused his office by offering jobs to young men he hoped to entice into sexual relationships, a senior Justice Department official said today. FBI agents on Wednesday are expected to interview Ryan Oelrich and another man, both 24, who said they were independently offered City Hall jobs and a position on the Human Rights Commission after online chats with a man who turned out to be West. "The FBI has opened what's called a 'preliminary inquiry' to determine whether a full-blown investigation should occur," said Thomas O. Rice, chief criminal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Washington. It is also reported that today agents from the FBI will interview Ryan Oelrich and another unidentified male who allegedly said they were offered jobs at City Hall along with a position on the Spokane Human Rights Commission after engaging in online chats with West. How this went on for 25 years without being made public is beyond me. Someone, somewhere had to have known this was going on. My hunch is that MANY someones knew of this abuse of public trust while he was not only a politician, but also a Boy Scout Leader and a deputy of the sheriff's department. Were people granted special favors or anything else to keep all this under wraps? My heavens, during all this time, it is alleged that he abused two boys in the late 70's (which of course West denies) but he does however admit to using computers belonging to the city to foster gay relationships with young men. It is inconceivable to me that nobody knew all this was going on. Hopefully the investigation will also uncover this enabling behavior by others, and bring to light the outright crap these Republicans call "family values" exposing it for the scam it truly is.
