British MP Rips Sen. Coleman A New One
In a hearing being conducted over the food-for-oil exchange scandal by a senate Sub-committee Senator Coleman accused an English MP of profiteering and claimed the evidence came from a senior Iraqi official. Well Mr. Galloway arrived in Washington yesterday demanding an apology from the Senate for what he called the "schoolboy dossier" passed off as an investigation against him.
"It was full of holes, full of falsehoods and full of value judgments that are apparently only shared here in Washington," he said at Washington Dulles airport.
Well today was the day Senator Coleman found out that you don't mess with the Brits.
He opened his remarks by telling Coleman that he and no one on his behalf has ever been an an oil trader, and furthermore, he had never even seen a barrel of oil, owned one, bought one, sold one. Then he proceeded to rip into Coleman saying Now I know that standards have slipped in the last few years in Washington, but for a lawyer you are remarkably cavalier with any idea of justice. I am here today but last week you already found me guilty. You traduced my name around the world without ever having asked me a single question, without ever having contacted me, without ever written to me or telephoned me, without any attempt to contact me whatsoever. And you call that justice. He then went on to condemn the entire Iraqi policy pointing out the lies and false claims made by the Bush Administration and their minions like Coleman: I told the world that Iraq, contrary to your claims did not have weapons of mass destruction. I told the world, contrary to your claims, that Iraq had no connection to al-Qaeda. I told the world, contrary to your claims, that Iraq had no connection to the atrocity on 9/11 2001. I told the world, contrary to your claims, that the Iraqi people would resist a British and American invasion of their country and that the fall of Baghdad would not be the beginning of the end, but merely the end of the beginning.I say three cheers for Mr. Galloway how refreshing to see someone finally stand up to this bunch of right-wing neocons and put on the public record exactly what subterfuge they have been engaged in.
