Molly Ivins was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999, and was undergoing treatment for the third time when she passed away at home Wednesday at the age of sixty-two.
Molly who had no fear of speaking truth to power was an outspoken critic of George Bush who she knew from the time they were both teenagers in Houston. In fact it was Molly who dubbed him with the name “Shrub.”
Rather than getting angry, she was best known for the way she tempered her liberal views with humor by always voicing her criticisms with a contagious smile.
In her last column, available here despite her condition she once again showed us her caustic side with this quote about his highness King George...."The president of the United States does not have the sense God gave a duck--so it's up to us. You and me."
We have lost an icon - Rest in peace dear Molly.
