Don't Ask , Don't Tell - Republican Style
I hope the fact that the Republican leadership, meaning House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader John Boehner, and RNCC Charman Tom Reynolds and were responsible for not reigning in Mark Foley and reporting him to police authorities will not be lost on the parents out there.
It is outrageous that this bunch have known for years that Foley had a habit of getting too close to the summer Pages. They had a chance to nail this sicko and muffed it by neglecting to do a thorough investigation when they were given the questionable emails to Pages from Foley.
Equally outragous, as we learned today, was the action taken by Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., chairman of the House Page Board. He not only didn't notify the only Democrat on the board Rep. Dale Kildee, D-MI., he didn't even have the decency to notify his fellow Republican on the board Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.
The West Virgina Gazette.com website reported yesterday:Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., says she was not told about suggestive e-mails that a Florida congressman sent to a 16-year-old former Capitol page, even though she is one of three representatives who oversee the page program. ....... “There’s only three of us on the page board. I feel that we should have been informed,” Capito said. “I’m absolutely disgusted by what I’m hearing. I was caught totally unaware.”That's right, even though the Page described an email from Foley to a fellow Page this way “Maybe it is just me being paranoid, but seriously. This freaked me out,” and that one e-mail was “sick, sick, sick, sick, sick.”, it was kept secret. He was correct, the email was sick. And knowing all this these fat old "Christian family values" men kept it secret, and didn't bother to investigate thoroughly where they might just have come across the lurid and sexually explicit instant messages. It's quite simple actually, they were more interested in the money Foley could raise for the RNCC and keeping a safe Congressional seat come November. As Rep. Capito stated: “I don’t think it would pass the sniff test,” she said. “Even asking those questions — that is not normal between a 52-year-old adult and a 16-year-old. It’s not like they’re family friends or anything. I think it would raise some serious questions. But I wasn’t given that opportunity.”No you weren't given that opportunity Ms. Capito, and neither were these young Pages given the opportunity to know that they were NOT being protected from a predator/pedophile. Don't ask - don't tell indeed. |
