Did The NYT Assist In Breaking The Law?
I am so pissed (as you all should be too) at the New York Times it is hard to even see straight. First we have Judy Miller pandering her incorrect reports regarding WMD's thereby assisting the little dictator in the White House to invade and occupy a foreign country. Not to mention the blood she and her publishers and editors have on their hands. Now we find out from their own reporting, that they knew and withheld from the public for over a year the fact that this Bush Crime Family has been trashing the Constitution and illegally spying on its' very own citizens. The White House asked The New York Times not to publish this article, arguing that it could jeopardize continuing investigations and alert would-be terrorists that they might be under scrutiny. After meeting with senior administration officials to hear their concerns, the newspaper delayed publication for a year to conduct additional reporting. Some information that administration officials argued could be useful to terrorists has been omitted.Ok you may be able to make an argument, although a weak one, (remember the NSA is legally only responsible for the collection and analysis of foreign communications, and for the security of government communications against similar agencies elsewhere), as to the legality of George's actions, but there is absolutely no doubting the fact that the New York Time shirked their responsibility to the public by withholding information at the government's' request, when it is the duty of the press to hold the government responsible for its' actions. The NYT can rationalize this by using the claim of "national security" which is the same excuse George and the gang use whenever they want to hide their filthy deeds but that dog don't hunt when it comes to a "free" press as defined by Justice Hugo Black when he wrote that "The Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have [to] bare the secrets of government and inform the people." If and when an official investigation is launched into the legality of the NSA, FBI and the CIA actions, underwritten and authorized by George Bush, the NYT should also be included in that investigation. And if indictments or legal action is pursued against any agency or George Bush himself in this conspiracy to infringe on the privacy rights of US citizens then the NYT should be looked upon as a co-conspirator. |

good post and all good questions. This will be interesting....
but yes, they sat on the story for over a year, and the icing on the cake is that the writer is putting a book out this year. So we have to wonder was the story held before the Election....yes?
Gee a book in the offing, and also something that would have had an effect on the election. As the church lady would say "now isn't that conveeeeeenient".
