Both Sides Call For An Investigation Over Spying
While the Bush crowd cries politics over criticism of the illegal spying by the NSA and approved by "the little dictator that could" it should be pointed out that, as reported by Reuters, that Senators from both sides of the aisle are asking for an official investigation.Democratic and Republican calls mounted on Tuesday for U.S. congressional hearings into President George W. Bush's assertion that he can order warrantless spying on Americans with suspected terrorist ties. ------ Republican Sens. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Olympia Snowe of Maine joined Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan, Dianne Feinstein of California and Ron Wyden of Oregon in calling for a joint investigation by the Senate Intelligence and Judiciary Committees into whether the government eavesdropped "without appropriate legal authority."So Dick Cheney call spout off all he wants to about how there will be a backlash against those who go against the President. It will be more than interesting to see him chastise his own members. The last time he tried to discipline members of his own party in the Senate it was over torture, and he fell flat on his face, and the same will happen in this case. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid says he prefers that there be two separate sets of hearing one by the Intelligence Committee, and the other which has already been announced by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter. Also, as I blogged here earlier today, Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-MI) announced the release of the investigation into the misuse of intelligence regarding the invasion and occupation of Iraq. He then followed that up with an introduction of a resolution of censure for both President Bush and Vice-President Cheney. The letter is available for you to read and also sign in support of his resolution HERE.. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the deafening silence about these events from the mainstream media, particularly cable and the regular chanels available over the airwaves. I guess shredding the constitution and attempting to set up a dictatorship isn't a big enough story for them. They prefer instead dominate the airwaves with sex, sex, and more sex. The way they handled the trumped up Clinton impeachment is all the proof we need to understand how they play the game. |
