Resignation Watch Continues
The rumor started by CNN's Robert Novak saying that Chief Justice Rehnquist would resign today was obviously wrong since no announcement has been made and according to APTV news crews and an Associated Press photographer waited in pelting rain for three hours Friday morning for Rehnquist to emerge from his suburban Virginia town house. He eventually did, wishing reporters a good morning. When asked about retirement rumors, he answered: "That's for me to know and you to find out," before getting into a waiting car.A Supreme Court historian at Emory University David Garrow characterized all the media attention as "Bizarre. Feeding frenzy is overused, but it certainly fits." Meanwhile, over at Raw Story, they are reporting A Time Magazine reporter dispatched an email across the city at 4:30, asserting the White House has rescheduled Monday meetings for Tuesday to accommodate a retirement announcement Monday, though others on the Hill say the meetings were rescheduled earlier this week.So I guess the wait will continue and the press will continue to speculate. By focusing on rumors of Rehnquist's retirement, (with the exception of Raw Story) they can continue to evade the lingering questions that should be asked of the White House regarding the Karl Rove/Plame leak investigation. |
