Is Perp Walk Next?
Maybe, but maybe not.
Michael Isikoff, in the current edition of Newsweek more or less confirms the fact that King George's brain Karl Rove is the source of Matt Cooper named in e-mails that were turned over to federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. It was 11:07 on a Friday morning, July 11, 2003, and Time magazine correspondent Matt Cooper was tapping out an e-mail to his bureau chief, Michael Duffy. "Subject: Rove/P&C," (for personal and confidential), Cooper began. "Spoke to Rove on double super secret background for about two mins before he went on vacation ..." Cooper proceeded to spell out some guidance on a story that was beginning to roil Washington. He finished, "please don't source this to rove or even WH [White House]" and suggested another reporter check with the CIA.Although I would love to see a "perp-walk" starring the secret President - Karl Rove, I wouldn't be too quick to jump on that bandwagon. Let's take a look at this carefully. Back on March 8/04 it was reported in The American Prospect Karl Rove, told the FBI in an interview last October that he circulated and discussed damaging information regarding CIA operative Valerie Plame with others in the White House, outside political consultants, and journalists, according to a government official and an attorney familiar with the ongoing special counsel's investigation of the matter. But Rove also adamantly insisted to the FBI that he was not the administration official who leaked the information that Plame was a covert CIA operative to conservative columnist Robert Novak last July. Rather, Rove insisted, he had only circulated information about Plame after it had appeared in Novak's column.Ok now this would appear to be an outright lie by Rove wouldn't you think? After all, Novak's column was published on July 14th, and the date of the e-mail was the 11th......GUILTY!!!!.......but hold on a minute. It is also true and in fact reported in the Washington Post on November 26/04 While Novak's column did not run until Monday, July 14, it could have been seen by people in the White House or the media as early as Friday, July 11, when the Creators Syndicate distributed it over the Associated Press wire.Uh Oh!! this could give King Karl a crack to slip through and you and I both know, if there is a way for this sneak to get around something by parsing he'll do it. The other problem I see is the he could also claim that he didn't use her name, that all he said was "Wilson's wife" or he didn't know she was an "undercover" Operative, only that she was employed by the CIA. All of these scenario's could get this slimeball off as he once again insults our intelligence by using far-fetched wording. Hopefully, Investigator Fitzgerald will also not fall for his sneaky crap. To my way of thinking, the Newsweek article does nail him, but it also raises more questions than it answers. Perhaps this is why he went after Judy Miller as hard as he did being that she is a well known insider and mouthpiece for the administration. Stay tuned........ |
