Increased Security In US Cities
ABC NEWSAccording to a Department of Homeland Security official, sometime before 7 a.m. ET, DHS officials activated the Interagency Incident Management Group. Officals at the IIMG have been in touch with local transportation officials in major U.S. cities to make them aware of the London situation so that they can consider any plans to implement additional security procedures, the official said. An official with the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority said the system was stepping up security immediately after the explosions that left at least two people dead and scores injured on the subway system in London this morning. Metro spokeswoman Candace Smith said passengers "should expect to see increased police patrols, bomb sniffing dogs and officers carrying machine guns." The D.C. Police have activated their Joint Operation Command Center as a precautionary measure in response to the situation in London, department spokesman Sgt. Joe Gentile said.Although there has been no specific information of possible attacks in the US, security is being stepped up only as a precaution. |
