Same-sex Legislation Passes In Canada
Supported by most members of the Liberals, the Bloc Quebecois and the NDP, the legislation passed easily, making Canada only the third country in the world, after the Netherlands and Belgium, to officially recognize same-sex unions. The legislation sailed through final reading in the House of Commons, with a vote of 158 for and 133 against, and should become the law of the land when as expected it passes the Canadian Senate in July. The "vote is about the Charter of Rights," said Prime Minister Paul Martin. "We're a nation of minorities and in a nation of minorities you don't cherry-pick rights." I hope eventually the passage of this law here in Canada will have a civilizing influence in the US. Of course it won't happen until the current right-wing thugs leave office or are turfed out on their collective backside be it by election or impeachment. MORE.... |

Enough already about same sex unions! There are more important issues in the world like war and poverty .
I hope so too. I don't know what the problem is.
Paul- just because there are more important problems doesn't mean that we should give up working on all lesser problems. Don't be foolish.
