Is Syria Next On The List For Bush?
Recently Donald Rumsfeld held a newsy at the Pentagon where he of course condemned Amnesty International for calling Guantanamo a modern day gulag. The Press of course made that the headline story from the news conference and rightly so.
But what disturbed me more than old Rummys' denial (after all, that is to be expected), was this little reported part of the news conference. Here is the excerpt from The Boston Globe Also yesterday, Rumsfeld issued a veiled warning to Syria, saying Iraq's neighbors should not give haven to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the terrorist leader in Iraq who reportedly was wounded recently near Syria's border. "Were a neighboring country to take him in and provide medical assistance or haven for him, they obviously would be associating themselves with a major linkage in the Al Qaeda network and a person who has a great deal of blood on his hands," Rumsfeld said. He did not threaten any retaliation but said "people would take note of" any support for Zarqawi. Appearing alongside Rumsfeld, General Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the military does not know where Zarqawi is. "Our assessment is that he has been wounded. The severity, I don't know that we know that," he said. Now of course this isn't a direct warning, but this is also how they started with Iraq. Just short little blurbs of a message at first, then outright lies and threats and the next thing you know another "war on terror". I admit, I am the suspicious type. Expecially where the King George and his cohorts are concerned. But it makes sense to me since the ultimate goal of these neocons is to take over the middle east Syria would be next on the list with the next venture being Iran, who would probably come to the aid of Syria in any confrontation with the United States. Those are my suspicions and thoughts, what do you think? |
