Justice Department To Monitor Voting
CNN is reporting that the Justice Department including 850 federal personnel to 69 jurisdictions in 22 states will be monitoring the voting.The contingent includes more than 500 trained federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management to areas mostly in the Deep South and Southwest, which have been certified by federal courts or the Attorney General under the Civil Rights Act of 1965. In addition more than 350 Civil Rights Division lawyers and other personnel from the Justice Department are being dispatched to locations throughout the country where authorities have reason to believe there is a potential for federal voting violations.In addition to the Justice Department, there are many citizen groups you can contact if you have a problem voting. There is a form you can use to report problems of any kind to the right side of this website from VoterStory.org. There are 4 simple steps to submit your story: 1) On Election Day, the voter completes the form with their story. 2) When they hit "submit" their information is transmitted to voter protection organizations who will be standing by to intervene or lend support if necessary. 3) The voter also receives an email confirming that their story was transmitted. 4) Voter information is entered into a database of election incidents.Election incidents can also be reported to several national hotlines. Those reported to 1-866-OUR-VOTE will be catalogued in the Election Incident Reporting System Problems with voting machines can also be reported by calling 1-888-SAV-VOTE (1-888-728-8683).
