King George's Abuse Of Power
So the hand-picked U.S. Supreme Court has finally decided to smack the boy king down a peg....good on them!!! Not only did they rule that military trials for detainees at Guantanamo Bay are illegal, but also rejected the Bush administration's argument that the Geneva convention does not apply to prisoners held at the American facility in Cuba. Gee do you think the talking heads and/or the Bush administration will now question the patriotism of the Supreme Court Judges the way they do with everyone else who dares to question decisions and actions by King George and his minions? Every year in order to celebrate our freedoms and the good neighborship of the two countries of Canada and the United States, we in this area hold our "International Freedom Festival". To get things off to a roaring start, there is a monstrous fireworks display (said to be the largest in North America) which brings well over 1 million spectators lining both sides of the Detroit River which separates our two countries. During the covering of the event, inevitably it is brought to our attention the freedoms both countries enjoy and how thousands of American and Canadian troops have paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to enjoy this freedom. This year however I could not help but be saddened that Bush and his lackey yes-men and women seem to be doing their very best to erode those very same freedoms. I could list their ways of accomplishing this erosion of freedoms here, but I am sure you are all well aware of what has happened. Let's just say, the U.S. and eventually Canada with its' very own far right conservative government are IMO on a serious slippery slope towards a police state. So as we celebrate both countries, Canada Day on July 1st and Independence Day on July 4th, please keep in mind that our collective freedoms came at a very high price, and we must stand strong and not let this reckless boy-king who likes to dress-up and play "war President" take them from us. |
