NYC Threat Update
5:43 P.M. - AP reports:Authorities were increasing mass transit security after word of a credible threat of a bombing on the city's subway system, a congressman said in Washington. "Obviously, this is a significant threat," said Rep. Peter King (news, bio, voting record), R-N.Y., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. In New York, a law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity in advance of an official announcement, said the threat is "specific to place, time and method."It is also reported that a local media outlet in NY received word of the threat yesterday, and agreed to hold the story until an official announcement could be made today. It is interesting that as the "official" announcement was being made, FBI officials in Washington said they were not aware of any viable threat to New York's subway system. Also, Jeanne Meserve from CNN has also stated that even the Dept. of Homeland Security is not even aware of a specific threat. |
