Is Negroponte Set To Take Over Spy Management From CIA?
Does anyone in their right mind want John Negroponte in charge of spying operations? Via the Washington PostRepublicans on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence want to strip from the CIA its primary role as manager of overseas collection of human intelligence, suggesting that Director of National Intelligence John D. Negroponte take over that responsibility.[snip] The Republicans, led by Sen. Pat Roberts (Kan.), the panel chairman, urged Negroponte "to directly manage and oversee the conduct of HUMINT operations across the intelligence community," saying the need is "imperative" because the Pentagon and the FBI are placing "greater emphasis" on spying. Democrats on the committee opposed the suggestion, calling it in their section of the report a "misguided solution" and noting that the CIA has recently reached agreements with the FBI and Pentagon to "avoid confusion and ensure smooth coordination" of spying operations at home and abroad. They also noted that the DNI -- a position created by Congress last year to oversee and coordinate the government's intelligence community -- "was not established as a new bureaucracy to assume the responsibility for day-to-day intelligence operations."...My God this is obscene!!! This is the same man who as ambassador to Honduras, played a key role in supplying and supervising the CIA-backed "contra" mercenaries who were based in that country, and whose US-funded operations claimed 50,000 lives. During the same period, Honduran military death squads, operating with Washington support, assassinated hundreds of opponents of the US-backed regime. I guess we can now expect roaming groups of mercenaries (contracted from Blackwater USA no doubt!) spying on and harassing American citizens who happen to be Democratic and/or dare question the likes of King George and the other members of Bu$hCo. What next? Death squads permitted in George's New Amerika after he declares Marshal law on the entire country? Believe me this is not as far fetched as it sounds. Read this from the Syndney Morning Herald: Recent pronouncements from the Bush Administration and national security initiatives put in place in the Reagan era could see internment camps and martial law in the United States. When president Ronald Reagan was considering invading Nicaragua he issued a series of executive orders that provided the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with broad powers in the event of a "crisis" such as "violent and widespread internal dissent or national opposition against a US military invasion abroad". They were never used. This may be an article from 2002, but remember this order is still in place. Kind of scary isn't it? Well in case you were'nt aware of it, The Nation reports that, Blackwater USA is armed and at this very time patrolling the streets of New Orleans. We have seen the future and it is now. |
