As Expected The Radical Christian Right Weighs-In On Schiavo Autopsy
Well we all new it would come eventually. The American Life League's Judie Brown has this to sayThe results of Terri Schiavo's autopsy provide some answers concerning her physical condition, but in no way do these findings justify the cruel death by dehydration that was imposed on a living human being."This despite the fact that all medical opinion says there is no pain involved in dehydration. Also, if as the autopsy results show that her brain was 615 grams and is largely reduced to what is termed granular atrophy, and the normal brain weight for somebody who is approximately 41 years of age ought to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,200 to 1,300 grams. That means more than half of her brain had atrophied so how in the world could she possibly have felt any pain at all. Brown went on to say "There are those who will use this autopsy report to claim that the death by dehydration imposed on Terri Schiavo was compassionate or merciful, others would say such a life is not worth living. Such thinking is misguided and absolutely wrong. Those decisions are not ours to make."Well we agree there Judie, "those decisions ARE NOT ours to make" - OR YOURS! But you and the rest of your ilk made it your decision didn't you. You're the one's who surrounded a palliative care center inconveniencing the lives of the other residents who were there for a peaceful passing and their families. You're the one's who made life a living hell for Terri's husband Michael. You're correct Ms. Brown it was NOT your decision to make. It was the responsibility of Terri's husband and no one else. Next we had an opinion from Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life who was with Terri Schiavo in the final hours before her death said Wednesday the autopsy findings do not change the moral aspects of her death, which he called "a murder." "Her physical injuries and disabilities never made her less of a person. No amount of brain injury ever justifies denying a person proper humane care. That includes food and water,"Well I respectfully disagree with you Fr. Pavone, as the Pinellas-Pasco County Medical Examiner Dr. Jon Thogmartin reported in his findings Thogmartin also said Schiavo would not have been able to eat or drink if given food by mouth as the Schindlers wanted after the tube was removed. In fact, he said, she might easily have choked to death if such feedings had been tried. "Removal of her feeding tube would have resulted in her death whether she was fed or hydrated by mouth or not,"Dr. Stephen Nelson, an expert in pathology of the brain and central nervous system was brought in as a consultant on the autopsy and stated "There is nothing in her autopsy report, in her autopsy that is inconsistent with Persistent Vegetative State".I don't know how to break it to you Fr. Pavone, but were it not for the intervention in the death process in the first place, by her husband allowing the insertion of the feeding tube, she would have met her God years ago. So explain to me how this is a "murder" There will be no satisfying these people, now that it has been proven the removal of the feeding tube was justified, I guarantee it. You will now see them coming forward with all kinds of hair-brained off-the-wall theories. And of course our ever accommodating press will give them the loudspeaker to shout them to the rest of us as if they are fact. |
