Religion Taken Over By The Right
Colbert King of the Washington Post in his latest article titled "Hijacking Christianity . . ." describes how right-wing Christian groups are attempting to take over and speak for Christianity throughout the United States. Emboldened by their appropriation of the flag, ideologues on the right have now set their sights on religion, and specifically Christianity, as the means to promote their political agenda.Angered by the way these groups (particularly the Family Research Council), have taken it upon themselves to decide the moral fabric of the entire nation, King goes on to compare (quite correctly in my opinion) them to the KKK. They are not now and never will be the final arbiters of Christian beliefs and values. They warrant as much deference as religious leaders as do members of the Ku Klux Klan, who also marched under the crossMORE.... |

I'm so sick of this too! I am not a believer in organized religion, but I do relalize that there isn't just ONE way to be a Christian. Their are so many different Christian churches that I don't know how ONE of them can say that they speak for all Christians. Some of these beliefs are so different that they go to war against each other (N. Ireland for example, and even the U.S. was set up in part to get away from the religious tyranny in England). It is very scary that they are trying to use religion for political purposes. We are heading back to the dark ages!
