Protests, Questions, Sodomy OH MY!!!
Justice Antonin Scalia was greeted by protestors when he arrived for an appearance at New York University. Students from NYU and members of the community joined forces outside Vanderbilt Hall to protest Scalia's arrival where he was being honored by the student-run law journal,"NYU Annual Survey of American Law". The 2005 issue is being dedicated to Scalia by the law journal students. Washington Square News reports that Prior to the dedication ceremony, Scalia met with law students for a Q-and-A session in Tishman Hall. The Q-and-A had limited seating - the audience was chosen randomly from students who RSVPed - and was closed to the press, though the discussion was simulcast on a projector across the hall.As the Q&A session got underway, the crowd showed some hostility in there questions, even to the point of asking Scalia about his sexual actions with his wife. In asking about Scalia's dissent in Lawrence v. Texas and his view that privacy is not constitutionally protected, Eric Berndt, a law student, shocked the crowd by asking, "Do you sodomize your wife?" Scalia refused to answer the question while the crowd gasped and the administrators promptly turned off Berndt's microphone.Acually I am extremely thankful the microphone was turned off and Scalia didn't answer. Scalia's sexual relations with his wife (or anyone for that matter) is a picture my mind does not need. MORE..... |
