Large Power Outage Hits L.A.
A large area of Los Angeles has lost electric power, including downtown and the San Fernando Valley. The city's department of water and power said it was investigating the cause and extent of the outage. CBS News As you may recall, ABC News reported yesterday of receiving a tape containing a terror threat to L.A. and Melbourne, Australia. There is no mention this is related. Updates as they become available UPDATE (5:00 PM) Via CNN The Police Department went on "full tactical alert," meaning no officers were allowed to leave duty. The city was investigating the cause and extent of the outage. But Sgt. Catherine Plows, a police spokeswoman, said terrorism was not suspected. Heavy power usage can lead to blackouts. But the weather in Los Angeles was not unsually hot Monday. UPDATE (5:30 PM) KABC Radio in Los Angeles is reporting that 90% of the power has been restored and was caused by an employee error. |
