Frist Still Threatening Nuclear Option
Even though he claimed that he was not threatening, Bill Frist is quoted as saying"Let me very clear. The constitutional option remains on the table. It remains an option. I will not hesitate to use it, if necessary. It should be used as a last resort, he added, admitting that no one wants to go there. "But it is the only response if there is a change in behavior like we saw in the last Congress," First said.Well Bill that sure as hell sounds like a threat to me. I said it at the time the compromise was announced, and I say it again. I don't trust this bunch of Republican liars as far as I can throw them. I do however, believe that of the 7 Republican Senators there are probably at least 4 that would vote against Frist if he tries to pull this crap. My guess is that the only reason Frist is still threatening is because he has received word from the Dobson crackpots that there will be no support for him in his expected presidential bid if he lets this kind of compromise happen again. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said he supports the memorandum of understanding reached last night. Frist made a point of saying he did not "sign on" in his floor speech today. In response to the "threat" made by Frist, Reid said he was disappointed about Frist's "threats" to bring it back. "Let's move on and do the Senate's business." MORE.... |
