Bush Holds Press Conference - Lies As Usual
Well King George came off of his throne long enough to mix with that "liberal-controlled" media today. What did he have to say? NOT MUCH but his lips were moving so we know automatically that he was lying.
Of course he dismissed the Amnesty International report that labeled Guantanamo as a modern day gulag while at the same time reminding us that he has a mandate. Sure George. As the Washington Post reports:Two days after winning reelection last fall, President Bush declared that he had earned plenty of "political capital, and now I intend to spend it." Six months later, according to Republicans and Democrats alike, his bank account has been significantly drained. In the past week alone, the Republican-led House defied his veto threat and passed legislation promoting stem cell research; Senate Democrats blocked confirmation, at least temporarily, of his choice for U.N. ambassador; and a rump group of GOP senators abandoned the president in his battle to win floor votes for all of his judicial nominees. With his approval ratings in public opinion polls at the lowest level of his presidency, Bush has been stymied so far in his campaign to restructure Social Security. On the international front, violence has surged again in Iraq in recent weeks, dispelling much of the optimism generated by the purple-stained-finger elections back in January, while allies such as Egypt and Uzbekistan have complicated his campaign to spread democracy.Wow that is some mandate George. Your suck-up promise to the right-wing wackos that you would immediatedly veto the stem cell bill looks like it's down the drain since there are more than enough votes to override your veto. The there is the blocking (even temporarily) of your nominee to the UN "mad dog" Bolton, who looks as though he may not get confirmed by your up/down vote you demanded. Now what else was there? Oh yes your Social Security reform --- down the drain with the public. In fact, it is in the same place as your approval rating. Yup THAT IS SOME MANDATE Georgie. And of course that "liberal controlled media" let you get away with your BS as usual, not once questioning your denials about Guantanamo Bay. Just as that bulwark of liberalism Larry King let your truth-challenged Vice President get away with the same denials in his interview. When are these damn reporters and talking heads going to start showing their profession the respect it used to have and start challenging this crap that comes out of this administration? Just look at today. Instead of researching and reporting on the now myriad reports of abuses that are coming out what does the MSM decide is the most important story of the day? The coming out of "Deep Throat". No not Linda Lovelace, W. Mark Felt the number two official at the FBI while the Nixon scandal was unfolding. Don't all of you find it just a bit telling that today's media crows about the fine job the media did back then rather than doing the same thing and uncovering all the apparent crimes and misdemeanors this current President and his cohorts have committed? Did any of these guys have the cajones to question him about the Downing Street memo? Of course not if you did George and the boys might be offended and you would lose your gravy train ride in the Whitehouse press corps. Wake up guys and start doing your jobs! |

bravo!
i thought i was the only one calling him "king..."
with all the "values and morals" that the conservatives claim, it seems that our own country is in a state of economic and social civil war (as opposed to military).
i'd like to see someone take up the flag of "morality and ethics in the workplace" and start enacting laws to protect people like me and the countless others at my place of employment from being treated to callous disregard by HR when they dismiss your complaints with "well, bullying isn't illegal." Thanks... so your official position is "we will get away with whatever we can. Ethics has no place at this institution." Funny... it's an institution of higher education... so much for enlightenment.
